Metalmoore
Well as the title says i am looking for a place in glasgow to get my newly built bass a full professional setup (as i cant be bothered and would be much happier if i knew it was in safe hands) and wondering if anyone knows where i could get one and how much it would be. I was also thinking maybe we should have a sticky with names of places that do good setups with other info that people commonly look for ie tutors, luthiers, repairs so that its all very easy to find all with maybe a rating or a review so we who is best. Cheers
ase_one23
jimmy egypt's in cc music is always my recommendation - old school pros!!!!!
velvetkevorkian
I found Jimmy Egypt to be a: unhelpful and b: an arsehole, although he's got a generally good rep. I've used Strung Out Guitars a couple of times, but I've always done most of my own work. I believe our own 7string offers setups now as well, maybe shoot him a PM? What is it that needs done- is it just bridge/truss rod adjustments, or do the frets need looked at?

Just I have heard that a bass thats not been setup right can hurt your technique and sh*t like that, since i still see myself as a beginner i guess thats what worrys me but i know it needs some pup height, bridge and truss rod adjustments ASAP and thats really at the top of my list. I think i will drop 7string a PM see if he could help me.

Hutton
Yep, I can thoroughly endorse the recommendation to contact 7String. Mark has just set up my Lakland DJ4 the way I want it and now it plays like butter. He's also a thoroughly nice chap which always makes life more pleasant. Mark's wife Jen also makes great tea! Delberthot
Jimmy Moon on the south side is good - I had him do some work on a bass of mine and its the first time I've had a bass back that's been setup the way i wanted it.
7string
Very flattered by the recommendations guys. Many thanks I started to get into doing my own setups as the prices across Glasgow were very high. If you have more than 1 bass then it's even worse. As you can guess from my username I play a 7 string bass and who has experience of setting one of those up!! There is one particular website of a Glasgow repairer which warns players not to trust their instruments to anyone else (I'm not kidding!). So I've been learning for the last 6 years or so from books and hours and hours of DVD instruction. When I was happy with the standard of work on my own instruments, I offered to help other players with theirs. For the last few Christmases and birthdays my family have been buying me the specialist tools that I wanted to carry out different jobs. When I gave bass lessons, I'd offer to set up a pupil's bass for free (they'd supply the strings) to stop the bass itself getting in the way of their progress. Playing bass is physical enough as it is without battling against against the darn thing. I'm in the midst of a course for guitar repair at the local college and have now got to the stage of re-fretting one of my guitars and leveling and dressing frets on another. Great fun and I'm getting good results so far. Since then I've set up all kinds of electric instruments from Strats and Les Pauls to modern rock machines with Floyds. Bass-wise I set up my own 4, 7 and 9 string basses as well as 4, 5 & 6 string basses from fellow players. I take a lot of care to get the right result that the player wants and treat the instruments as if they were my own. I even sand and clean out control cavities to make shielding them in future a bit easier. Shielding's a job any player can do and that every bass would benefit from. Feel free to get in touch if you need some help with an electric bass or guitar. please bear in mind that I don't handle acoustic guitars/basses or EDB/double basses as I don't have the experience.
