eubassix Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 (edited) .. with no apparent BC interest in anything Xotic, let's move a bit closer to home - Devon. This is a Devon Diamond-J(azz) fretted 5. The top is made from burled Willow (very rare stuff) which was aged for a couple of years and the combined with a body core of nicely grained swamp ash. The neck blank that the neck is made from was originally glued up in 1994 - so it's very old, well-settled and won't warp at all! It's a very impressive (and beautiful) neck of Wenge, Cocobolo, Purpleheart and Maple). Weighs in at around 7.5 pounds!! Sounds incredible and is the most comfortable 'Jazz-5' I've tried, with exceptional playability. Great tonal options, with the passive tone of the Villex pick-ups plus the 18v. pre which is very responsive. Acoustically the bass is very resonant and sounds very articulate when unplugged. The B string is very defined. It's in excellent overall condition (as per the photos) Specs: 5 string Swamp ash body, walnut laminate, burled/flamed willow top 13 pc. (or 7pc.) neck, wenge/maple/bocote/purpleheart/bloodwood (not sure as both are offered and, whilst there are 13 'sections', 6 of these are thin maple 'stringers') 35" scale, 19mm string spacing, wenge fretboard Pick-ups: Villex SB's (EMG 45 size) Pre-Amp: Low End/Benavente 2 band Knob layout: Volume / Volume / Passive-Tone / Treble / Bass Switches: Mid. Shift / active-passive / mute Bridge: Hipshot Style "A" Ultralite Tuners String though body option Bocote String tree Matching cavity covers (held in place with magnets!... No need for hex.key or rounded-screws!!) Natural Wax finish Quality Gig bag: RoadRunner. I could change this a a decent/new hardcase (currently 'spare') but the RR gig-bag is one I've not seen before: semi-solid construction with thick internal cushioning. Also has a detachable carry-bag/pocket (4x chrome clips) which is really useful. I'd not be offfering this but have recently sold my Devon 5 Fretless and, whilst I'm still currently advertising it (them), might be reconsidering defretting one of my Xotic 5's. And the usual need for Xmas funds, of course. Overall it's excellent - just a few minor marks. £1450 incl. Edited June 15, 2011 by eubassix
eubassix Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 Thanks wbb' - it is a pretty special bass, both aesthetically and tonally.
Shockwave Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 You have so many amazing basses that i would love! But why are they all 35" scale? Havent you got any 5vers at 34"? Good luck with the sale mate.
Beneath It All Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 Yes, I would have snapped this one up had it been 34"
purpleblob Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Wow, this is a beautiful bass - have a bump from me

samkeen Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 I have fairly recently acquired a Devon from Eubassix and it's bloody brilliant. Eubassix is also a great guy to deal with so if you're considering it, go for it

I have no idea what any of my bass's scales are - I just play them whatever they are
6stringbassist Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 The distance form the nut to the bridge is an inch longer, so all the frets will be slighter further apart. Not too big a deal really, probably more noticeable on a fretless.

ashevans09 Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 This is a stunning bass, and IMO 35" is the only way to go for 5ers. Lovely instrument you got there
molan Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Wow, only just noticed that this weighs 7.5lbs! That would be fantastic for live gigging work. Everything I've seen recently seems to be going the other way with the norm seeming to be heading up towards 10lbs. . . I wonder if it's a quality of woods available issue - are all the best light weight tone woods running out of stock?
Golchen Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 That is such a lovely bass and a very attractive price! I'm afraid that my GAS fund is empty though
eubassix Posted February 6, 2010 Author Posted February 6, 2010 ditto, Andrew - thanks for the bump (... and staggering). I think it's both a sign of the (financial) times plus basses that are not (as yet) so well known or represented in the UK. There are quite a few Watchers (as always) on the ebay listing, but I might choose to withdraw it.
trevthebass Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 still waiting for a reply to questions asked. trev.

Pete1967 Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 OMFG (to quote Stephen Fry) - under a grand! If I didn't have a Shuker on the way I'd have your arm off - complete with body attached. Stunning bit of kit and, IMHO, a total bargain at this price.
Shockwave Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Arrggh this is so bueatiful, if i had the money i still might buy it even if it does have a 35" scale.
eubassix Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 Still available (... still beautiful/exceptional!...) - looking for £1250 ono. (incl.)
