Headstock looks brand new? Might be inconsistent lighting but I think this could be a bit iffy? A lot of guys have bid on it so some comments here might help out a fellow BCer. wateroftyne
Looks fine to me... The lower edge of the headstock (under the logo) seems to have picked up a bit of chipping. It looks heavy, though!
neilb
The SN appears to be 1977 (the year the S prefix was used), the SNs began with 76xxxx in 1976. The tuners are Schallers (branded "Fender") and are consistent with 1976, the first year of their use. So, I would say its OK but probably bought/manufactured in '77 rather than '76. Beedster
Thanks chaps, I take it you don't think the wood on the headstock is a little too clean? Nice bass the! Chris
neilb
think its just the flash from the camera made it look light. The h/stock in the main pics looks consistent, nice aged look. They were notoriously heavy though the ash Ps in the 70s. All in all, a nice piece of history, but dont go spending buckets, they aint that rare. jwbassman
Went for £1000 in the end - i was following this one, only out of curiosity... Quite fancy getting a bass that is the same age as me - is that daft? This is also on at the moment... Is £1,150 too expensive for something like this? Cheers in advance guys, I don't know enough about this sort of thing and can't afford to lose a grand on a lemon... maybe one day, but that's not today! jwbassman
Not the only one then - that's good to know, pretty sure I one of the other guys mention this too a while back (probably what planted the seed in my head!)... I'm probably just old enough (31) for it to be a reasonably expensive project

Also, IMO. this seller sells a lot of junk. I wouldn't go anywhere near this.

Most of his basses have strange modifications, some of which he fails to mention in his descriptions. A '76 Precision in lovely condition didn't sell on ebay last week for £695 'cos it was collection only (from Norfolk I think). Maple/natural. Beautiful. Check out completed listing and get in touch with the seller, he might be disposed to doing a deal. In fact. here's the link http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...A:IT&ih=020 Chris
