Yesterday, Sting was a guest in a Belgian tv-show to talk about this new album.
It wasn't rehearsed but Sting went to the stage to sing "Message in a bottle" with the completely surprised house-band.
Thought I'd share this with you...

They had used the chord sequence of "message in a bottle" to announce a Belgian cook ("cock" Rodman joked) earlier in the show (he wrote a book about cooking "SOS Cooking") so they only new the verse.
They were surprised since the soundmix normally is a bit better and they would have known the structure better (I know the musicians too so I'm pretty sure)

Think what you like about his tree-hugging, his tantric sex and his new beard - that bloke can sing. And he's no spring chicken.

Little bass-player totally made up when Sting compliments him on his rendition of the bass part. Awwww! :)

Thanks for posting this, wombatboter!

Fair enough. The band must have loved it :)

Cheers

Yeah, that was good. I was more disturbed by the fisherman's jumper than the beard.

And I would not have minded at all being that bassist.

I've never really understood why so many people dislike Sting.

Regardless, the guy is a legend and people neglect his contribution to music. I mark him as a great influence on my playing.

I've got to admit to being annoyed by some things about him but I think you're correct about his songwriting and his bassplaying and his singing.
