I saw Edgar Meyer in Glasgow about a year or two ago. Absolutely astonishing- he can do things I didn't think were possible on DB, and gets such a massive sound from his incredibly small bass.

Edgar is probably my favourite soloist. Check out his recording of the Bottesini concerto, there's so many great players out there but none can touch him on that recording. It's on a completely different level! Think it may be on spotify.

Meyer is great. Check this out...

Few people can make a bass sound this good. His intonation is staggeringly accurate and his playing is simply astonishing. Most arco in thumb position, even when played by really good players, often sounds slightly kooky and out of tune to me. This, however, is right on the money and extremely beautiful...

I was at this same gig, it was incredible.

Also, check out his album 'Uncommon Ritual' Fabulous stuff.

He's also done an album of the Bach cello suites on DB, it's definitely worth a listen.
