thedavesideofthemoon
So, with great regret, I’ve decided to sell my Swiss-made Schertler DYN-B contact mic and matching PRE-A-III pre-amp system for double bass. It’s an unbelievable sound and I’ve loved using in combination with my transducer pickup but I need a new car and I need to make some cutbacks so here it is. Damn! This has got to be the most realistic reproduction of acoustic double bass tone that I’ve heard. It basically sounds like there’s an expensive condenser microphone placed directly in front of your bass in a recording studio… but coming out of your amp or PA at a live gig! The contact mic and pre-amp themselves are in immaculate condition and have been lovingly cared for in the 18 months since I bought them. I still have the manuals and warranty and both the contact mic and pre-amp come fully cased in the original schertler cases. The contact mic is a bug which attaches to the body of a bass using a specialist putty (completely harmless to your bass) and then feeds the signal to an XLR output which sits by the bridge. You can then connect it directly to a amp or PA or route it through the specialist schertler pre-amp which has been designed specifically for use for this pickup. Like I said, the tone is unbelievable with perfect reproduction of the full frequency range of the instrument. It’s also very very versatile because you can alter the tone depending on where you place the bug on the body of the bass. But of course once you’ve found the sweet spot you can just leave it in position, rock up to the gig, plug in and go. I’m selling them together as the matching complete system that they are. The Dyn-B cost me £485 and I paid £240 for the PRE-A-III. I’m reluctantly selling the pair for £499. As I said it’s all in immaculate condition and perfect working order. You’ll never need another bass pickup after this one. Here are the details and current prices on the contrabass.co.uk website: http://www.contrabass.co.uk/schertler_dyn_set.htm http://www.contrabass.co.uk/schertler_pre_a_111.htm -------------------- And… Here’s what it says on the Schertler website: DYN-B CONTACT MIC Perfect amplification of the acoustic double bass has been a long-time dream for most jazz bassists. The DYN-B, in combination with our PRE-A-II, is simply the most natural double bass transducer in the world, one step closer to that dream. The application and use of the Schertler DYN-B transducer is extremely simple and safe. Special inert adhesive putty is provided to mount the pickup to the instrument body. The best location for your sound is quickly found through our indications or through experimentation with placement. The balanced, low impedance output reduces the risk of hum and radio frequency (RF) interference, even with long cable runs. The XLR connector allows direct connection to mixing desks or preamplifier inputs. For additional control of level and tone, the Schertler PRE-A-II preamplifier is perfectly matched to the DYN-Series. "THIS TRANSDUCER REPRODUCES THE SOUND OF MY BASS, STRINGS AND FINGERS, NOTHING ELSE." CHARLIE HADEN PRE-A III Especially designed for use with all Schertler electrostatic and electrodynamic transducers, PRE-A III is a compact preamplifier loaded with features. Individual controls include Gain, Bass, Treble, Resonance (180 Hz attenuation) and Volume. PRE-A III accepts both XLR and 1/4" jack inputs and provides both "dry" and equalized outputs. It provides phantom power to the BLUESTiCK Marine system and STAT series pickups. Class-A constant current design and a regulated AC power supply mean a strong instrument signal at all times is delivered to the sound system. - TOTAL CLASS-A CIRCUT - No Negative feedback - Innovative filter design - Faster response http://basschat.co.uk/style_images/basscha.../attach_add.png Edited December 12, 2009 by thedavesideofthemoon
