fumps Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 Hey peeps i am looking for a set of strings that give that really slack feel. I have been testing a few new Basses recentley & noticed that some of the set ups i've really enjoyed the feel of have strings on that feel really soft & slack. Sorry to ask such a silly question but i just honestly dont know this, am am looking to replace my strings sometime during the week & would like some recommendations please. Cheers Quote
bumnote Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 ti flats are loose feeling if you want flats and they are great strings Quote
hubrad Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 Go for a bit lighter gauge, p'raps 40-100 instead of 45-105. Much lighter than that and you'll notice a big change in the tone too-- lighter strings give more twang but less body. On acoustic guitar I always felt that Elixir strings are a lower tension for the same gauge, but I've never used their bass strings.. anyone else comment on these? Quote
bubinga5 Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 Lighter gauge DR's are very slack..fantastic strings Quote

sdgrsr400 Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 When I tried DR HiBeams which are relatively slack, I found there was quite a lot of fret buzz which required the action to be lifted as the amplitude of these strings' vibration was significantly higher than on my usual somewhat higher tension Overwater strings. This does make sense when you think about it. So, what you gain on the slackness you may lose on the action height. But there's so many variables involved YMMV. Quote
fumps Posted November 23, 2009 Author Posted November 23, 2009 Cheers peeps. i appreciate the advice. Quote
