BassBen Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 Currently looking for a new bass head to replace my very heavey Peavey firebass. It must be over 300watt at 8 ohm as it will be powering my Barefaced Compact once I have orderd it. Found a few already Markbass Little 11 Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 gallien krueger MB 500 Are there any others? Must be around the £600 or under. Cheers, Quote
stingrayfan Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 There's a little Ashdown too I think and the TC Electronics new one. Though I liked the size of it, I found the Little Mark too clean for me but different strokes, different folks... Quote
chris_b Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 (edited) Not so small, but in my view even mightier, Thunderfunk, Aguilar and Mesa Boogie. Edited November 23, 2009 by chris_b Quote
Stylon Pilson Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 From what I've heard, the Ashdown lightweight heads don't produce as much racket as their wattage rating would suggest. This page might be useful for you, though it is probably in need of updating. S.P. Quote
crez5150 Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 +1 for the GK MB2 500 head..... I'm still blown away by mine... Quote
RussFM Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 Got to suggest the TecAmp Puma after my recent purchase, weighs less than my laptop, is smaller than my Xbox, and produces better tone than almost anything I've had (GK 1001-RB excluded). Quote
steve Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 I use a LMII, great little unit, and I think I saw some in the for sale section Quote
Captain Rumble Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 Teamp puma 350 is 250watt into my compact and it produces a very big sound at suprisingly high volume levels. I tried out a genze but thought the sound to cold for my taste also tried the GK mb2 much warmer sounding than the Genze and I would have bought one but for the Tecamp coming along at a price I could'nt resist and to date I am very happy with it. Its worth remembering that the compact is very efficient and will produce much higher sound levels for a given number of watts than you would expect. I guess the only way to be sure is to try them. john Quote
TheButler Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 TC RH450 that i tried at a fellow basschatters was lovely, i was stunned by the size:noise ratio! Quote
Pete Academy Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 I have a Markbass LMK. Unbelievably loud! Have heard the GK and it really does kick. The Ashdown Little Giants are not recommended. Quote
JayGarrett Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 I've finally ummmed and ahhhhed and decided to go the TC RH450 route if that helps any. Did look at Mark Bass, Phil Jones and Genz Benz but I wanted more 'character' - I'm not what you'd call a clinical player The RH450 also won me over with the 3 presets you can save and recall easily. My plan is to have an overdriven one then the other 2 can be for pick and finger style when I'm with one band or I can save settings for my fretless and 5 stringer when with my other band - job done Quote
