LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL![/quote] It's actually pretty simple, they will have had some indication from customs that illegal wood was being imported and that Gibson was realistically a potential customer. As for how they'd know, they'd just take a sample and stick it under a microscope. Any expert worth his salt would be able to tell the difference between legal and illegal woods because they have a distinct structure, even two trees of the same species but from different regions. And if it wasn't clear from sight then chemical tests would reveal it fairly clearly.
