molan Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 My Overwater Jazz currently has a J-Retro fitted which I'm vaguely happy with (it arrived with this fitted so I've never heard it with any other pre installed). As part of a trade I recently received an Audere JZ3 VB 3B and have been toying with swapping it with the J-Retro. Just wondered if anyone ahd ever tried this direct back to back comparison and what their views were on the differences between the two set ups? Quote
dave_bass5 Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Ill be very interested to know as well. Toying with the idea of getting a Audere but have heard good things about the J-Retro as well. Quote
deksawyer Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I've tried both in the same bass, and prefered the Audere. The J-retro is very nice and keeps the character of your bass. It wasn't versatile enough for me but sounded very good. The Audere has almost every type of tone in spades. Not as transparent but that's why I like it. Both are built extremely well and neither are a bad choice..... D. Quote
dave_bass5 Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Cheers for that. Sounds like the Audere is the one for me then. Im trying to get away form my bass's natural tone. Plus i like having a battery indicator. Quote
deksawyer Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Well one of the benefits of the East pre is the passive switch. Great idea!! D. Quote

JTUK Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 +1 on the Passive switch. I am not sure how successful potentially going against the natural sound of the bass is going to be..so would like to hear the opinions Quote
