cocco Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Im shopping for new pots for my P-bass which currently doesn't have any onboard controls and I have a few questions which need answering. If anyone can help I'd be very appreciative. 1, What are the standard pot resistance values in a P-bass? 2, How is is Mark Hoppus P-bass wired? as i am thinking of possibly going volume only. 3, What make of pots should I go for? Noisyjon Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 +1 to CTS pots. Also I'd recommend a Switchcraft jack socket and a Sprague Orange Drop capacitor to round it off nicely! Have a ganders HERE for a standard P bass wiring diagram with component values, etc. Cheers, Jon. Sprague Orange Drop indeed! Quote

Stewart Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 I'm pretty sure standard precision (rather than Mark Hoppus with Seymour Duncans) pots are usually 500k rather than 250k (but I wouldn't worry about using either...) Quote
hillbilly deluxe Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Fender list 250k and 500k replacements as standard. Quote
Al Heeley Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 You may get marginal difference in some treble roll off at lower vol settings with the 500k pots but most people would never notice Quote
Delberthot Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 I used 500k CTS pots in my warmoths cos I could never find 250k ones that could be used with a rear routed body but normally 250k is recommended for single coil pickups and 500k for humbuckers. I use paper-in-oil caps for their mojo snake oil type properties. I've just bought another batch and have fired the first one into my precision so we'll see how it sounds at next week's gig. Quote
mrcrow Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 i vote with the 250 gang and as for wiring...this must be the most simplest wiring..as for P bass i generally put the hot lead...the white in the diagram..to the centre pin on the pot...gives a wider range of adjustment Quote
