krispn
I should probably just use some drumming software but does anyone use a drum machine for practice? I'd be keen to try out different time signatures etc but like most things there is so much choice! Any help would be appreciated and recommend software too if you have tried any. Cat Burrito
The one that I used to have that everyone always raved about was the Alesis SR 16 http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product.asp?id=226 I don't know what your budget is but these certainly were the standard a few years ago
Stingray5
Either my Alesis SR16 or an old Yamaha PSR400 keyboard with built-in DM which I can also programme some chords, styles, etc., for backing. I sometimes also like to mess around with Hammerhead on the PC (good for some hip-hop-hippy-trippy-tecno-notice! )

Pete Academy
The Boss DR880 is highly recommended. The preset rhythms really do groove, and the machine has an input for guitar or bass with effects built in.
Toasted
Got a computer? Download Groovebox. It's free and excellent.

The only one is iDrum which manages to be both expensive and utterly useless.
AndyTravis
i've got a dr880, top bit of kit. I even used the Sh101 bass sound to double up on a track live, and in the studio. Trav
