john_the_bass
I wouldn't normally post something like this, particularly as it's a guitar, but anyway. This LP - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=330381576449 - is not a genuine Gibson. The guy is trying to pass it off as such and has produced the hookey letter of authentication (which I believe Gibson didn't do in 1971) to try and substantiate his claim that it's real. I know this because I went to look at it and nearly lost me rag because the guy had messed me around so much that it being a fake was the final straw. I think it's an Antoria or a CSL that's had a gold Gibson logo screenprinted onto it - it has a bolt-on neck with a made in Japan neck plate. If that doesn't give it away!! Anyway, I've reported it to ebay, but they've not removed it yet. If you're tempted (and you would be because a proper one of that age is worth £2.5 - £3k), don't bother. chriswilliams666
Do you reckon the seller purchased it and actually believes its a Gibson or is he just being a complete knob? john_the_bass
From his reaction when I told him it was bullshit, I think he knows exactly what he's got. He's relisted it and added the photo with the crap authentication letter.
chriswilliams666
A genuine Ass-Hole. Shame his Certificate looks more fake! Cat Burrito
I've seen some of the Gibson fakes that are flooding the UK market right now (they are literally flooding the market!) and to an untrained eye they are scarily close looking. EBay will probably pull it in the morning, from experience they take a day or so
john_the_bass
This is an old pre lawsuit guitar - from the front it looks quite convincing but the bolt on neck would have made me laugh had I not been so angry
Bassassin
The irony is, that if it is an Antoria gold-top, especially with those mini-humbuckers, it would have been worth a bob or two (£300+) in original condition. Knock at least a ton off that for putting a shonky fake sticker on it, f*ckwit! Poetic justice. Jon.
MacDaddy
It's a genuine Les Paul copy
john_the_bass
He's also ended it, rather than it being removed, so I suspect that some poor bugger has made him an offer outside ebay.

Beedster
Didn't his feedback score suggest it might be dodgy?
john_the_bass
No - I think it's unfair to suggest that if somebody has a feedback score of zero, then they're automatically dodgy as everybody has to start somewhere. As I was planning on going to look at it before I handed over any cash, I didn't think it was an issue and was prepared to come home empty handed. I daresay other people would be prepared to do the same.
