I need an XLR cable to run between the balanced out socket on my amp to the mixing desk. I'm finding "instrument" cables and "microphone cables". Are they the same? What do I need, please? BOD2 Posted December 1, 2009 Share Posted December 1, 2009 An XLR cable has two insulated cores and and braided earth. An instrument cable (i.e. a guitar cable) has a single core and a braided earth.
