pete.young
It looks identical to my SB465, apart from the knobs. Lovely slab of ebony and the top is probably Paduak. I suspect Jack is right and the electrics have been replaced. This is not necessarily a bad thing, the pre-amp in mine died (not uncommon) and there's a certain home-made nature to some of the soldering. I think £400 is a bit high too, start at £300 and work up :-)
Electrodoobie
Thanks for the replies! I should of mentioned yesterday that I'm writing from Portugal and that I'm a total newbie to bass playing. I've been chewing on the idea of buying a bass for some time now to be used in my home-studio, and found this SB456 in the classifieds. Kinda fell in love with it..GAS GAS GAS! This implies that I've never played a bass collection and wouldn't know the difference between the sound of the original pickups and the EMG's.. However after seeing a zillion Yamahas, warwicks, squiers, etc.. I keep coming back to the bass collection. I want one bad !! Meanwhile..... Found this bass collection ¿SB310? going for more or less the same money, haven't discussed the price yet.. However the owner claims its an 1980 SB310 all original. Looks like its in good nick, better pictures this time: https://flic.kr/p/BwmHkC https://flic.kr/p/BDCte1 https://flic.kr/p/AJwaQk https://flic.kr/p/B8qBJz What are your thoughts.. would you go for the SB465 with the EMG's or for the SB310? Thanks again gents

Mornats
SB310s tend to sell for around £150-200 so it shouldn't cost as much as the other one. They're still great basses so I'm sure you'd be happy with either
For anything like £400 I wouldn't go for an SB310 ... definitely wait for an SB320 to come along. Quite simply, a much better bass. In the UK, an SB320 in great condition will normally cost around £300 or less at the moment. That particular SB310 is quite interesting, I don't remember seeing one with a satin finish before. pete.young
I'd go for the 465, even with the EMGs it's a better bass, nicer wood, and you may end up having to change the electrics in the other one anyway.
It could just be the photography. I took some pics of my old SB315 which was glossy black but being a bit of a photographer I bounced the flash off the ceiling (for even lighting) and the pics came out with the finish looking quite matte/satin. BassBunny
There's an SB310 for sale on a Facebook Bass page for £150. Unfortunately I haven't a clue on how to post a link to the particular sale. Here's the Facebook Group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/UKBassgear/ It was last "bumped" about 17th Nov. It isn't far from me and I was going to buy it as it is a steal but a) I don't play 4 strings and I've got 3 x 5 Strings already. Looks quite tidy. pete.young
I have recently put some Delano pickups into my 465 to go with the nordy preamp that has been there for a while. It's a great combination which has transformed the bass into a real tone monster.
