dangerboy Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 I just took delivery of a guitar that a previous owner had taken a paintbrush to in the most horrific way imaginable. Just look: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=270489483500 The acrylic has come off with a bit of my favourite paint stripper, but now I need the body re-finished in a lovely glossy black or white (I haven't decided which yet). I don't have the patience to do it myself! The body will be stripped right back to the wood and sanded before it goes off for spraying. So I'm looking for recommendations for someone to respray it. Websites seem to massively vary in cost. Does anyone know someone who does good work for an OK price? Quote
Golchen Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 SIMS do resprays, but I'd imagine that they would be the upper end of the cost spectrum. Quote
BigRedX Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 But for something like that Sims would probably be the best choice. Quote
karlthebassist Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 If youre lucky enough to have a top notch local car body shop then give them a go. I've had wooden stuff (not guitar bodies) done that way before. Cost 50 quid for something about twice the area of a guitar one time for a solid black and laquered (spelling??!). worth a shot. Quote
BigRedX Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Car sprayers always come up in threads like this, but unless you know someone who does quality work and will take on none-guitar projects, it's just as difficult to get a recommendation as it is to find a good dedicated guitar refinisher in your area. BTW. That Travis Bean is going to look absolutely fantastic when it's finished. Have you found a source for the missing parts? Quote

steve-soar Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 £1000+, I'm speechless. Will look nice though. Quote
BigRedX Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Seems to be missing some saddles too in the photos. Price - it's all down to what each of us what want to pay for any given instrument. If it's what you want and you have the funds, then really the price almost becomes irrelevant! Quote
dangerboy Posted December 8, 2009 Author Posted December 8, 2009 Oh yeah - saddles! Shouldn't be too to get something non-original that fits and looks right. Quote
