Noisyjon
Hi Alex, I've been asked about this P.A. related question, but it's out of my league so if you'd be so kind? The system comprises of 1 x Marshall P.A.400 mixer amp unit along with matching Marshall (6115H) 175W, 1x15 plus horn speakers. They are 8 ohm rated. The amp puts out 200W @ 8 ohm, 300W @ 4 ohm and 400W @ 2 ohm. I mentioned that a pair of 4 ohm Eminence Kappalite 3015's will not only offer the 2 ohm load for the 400W output but they will happily take the 400W all day & night. My concern and question for you is - will the crossover & horn be OK with this change or will they need looking at and possibly changing? Any help mucho appreciated, Regards, Jon. alexclaber
Hi Jon, Unfortunately you can't get the 3015s in a 4 ohm version and I can't see a driver swap being a success anyway because the change in response, sensitivity and impedance curve will throw the crossover and the resulting sound out of whack. Also it would be a bit like putting a Ferrari engine in a Skoda - so if you're lucky it might perform better but it'll also show up the limitations of the cab (insufficient bracing/damping, undersized ports, tweeter THD is rather high, etc). Sorry! Alex
Noisyjon
Hi Alex, Thanks for the advice and reassuring my concerns about just swapping driver units over. ATB, JTB.
