petergales
I used to own a valve amp (SVT2PRO) and always regretted selling it as the tone was just great. The down side was when it used to have valve problems (expensive) and I had back problems (painful). I bought an Aguilar DB751 and was happy enough for a while but then I started hankering after that valve tone again so I visited the Matamp factory a couple of weeks ago and tried the new GT200. I was blown away! I played it through my GS410 and the warmth of the tone was just tremendous. I had always thought the DB751 to be a great amp (and I've had many compliments about it at gigs) but it just sounded 'dry' and lifeless in comparison to the GT200. I ordered one on the spot and I'm expecting it any day now. Mine will have the new transformers and be fitted with KT120 valves. This should nudge the 'clean output' up to 250 watts or so. I have to say that I found Andrew and Jeff to be the most helpful and well-informed people as well as the most committed to what they do. Can't wait to go over and collect it - the excitement is killing me! I can fully understand why you guys get so excited about Matamp gear. Roland Rock
Does anyone know the dimensions of the latest version of the GT200 please?
petergales
I'll be collecting mine in the next couple of days. I'll measure it for you and let you know. I think it's slighly wider than the previous model. Alternatively I'm sure Andrew or Jeff would oblige over a phone call. They're very helpful. Cheers, Pete
Roland Rock
Cheers Pete, it's just speculation atm so I just wanted to ask here rather than phone. Measurements would be great, thanks. You must be bursting with excitement!
petergales
Certainly am! I'll get back to you as soon as I have it here safe and sound. Cheers Pete
dannybuoy
You should be able to fit a class D power module into that Meat DI so that you could use it like an Orange Bass Terror for when you can't be bothered to lug it's bigger brother about! tayste_2000
Someone tried to order that Danny but they've not been able to create it to date. I'm thinking the Meat Di and then a Minimat as a slave, or I'm going to have to buy an Ashdown Little Bastard which I really don't want to do. tayste_2000
Also I'm calling Matamp shortly so can get measurements if anyone wants. Cheers
quimbymeat
I know it's nice to have a amp but if you want a amp that's easy to take to gigs for small supports the meat d.i. is perfect for me as i will show you guys soon. the sound from this going through a pa is mental i know that if i cannot be bothered to take my gt200 i can still sound huge with my d.i. some monitors and the pa. Anyone near glasgow can try mine out at my venue.

tayste_2000
So I ordered the following: GT200 preamp (new version with active mids) Minimat case (red) Full recording setup with DI (ala Quimby's) Custom front panel to match the rest of my gear. 6v6 power section for 4w bass amp with built in dummy load an attenuator. Basically this covers the following areas for me. Home practice amp Recording Di box Tube Preamp for use with slave amps Tube Di for use with IEM setup Grab and go jam/acoustic setup Recording tube amp with no cab (utilising a Radial JDI) Recording amp for use with my custom Matamp 4x6 cab I currently have a few of these roles filled with a 1957 Dynacord MV15 and while it's great, its just too old to be practical for modern recording with everything I do. For example the recording setup for me would be Overwater Progress 3 (DI direct from Bass) Meat Preamp Di Out Either mic'd 4x6 with 4w power section or dummy load and Radial jdi via a speaker output. 3 channels of awesomeness and can all be done silently if needs be. This will be ready for November which is inline with other commitments I have this year. I can see a lot of people thinking this will be useless but hey I practice at home with a 3k bass why should I use a £100 amp
tayste_2000
Does anyone know who the administrator for the Matamp forum is, really want to join but had my account held for like 5 days so far. PITA
cheezus
Does someone know that how long is the cab building process at the moment? My 4x10" cab took six months after I had paid the retainer but they had problems with Eminence back then. Now I ordered and paid the retainer of a 1x18" cab at the beginning of May, six weeks ago. Their official site says that "the estimated times for build are from two to six weeks with cabinets". Really interested to hear sound samples from that DI also. I would also love to hear more sound clips from GT200...so owners, please Juuso
tayste_2000
Cab building varies the main issue is speaker availability, just give a Jeff a call and see where they are up to. DI clips, Quimby sent me a few, I'll see if I can get them online, I'm sure he won't mind. GT200 clips, I'm currently recording all my band practice sessions and gigs, only issue is it's capturing it reasonably well on the camera mic but the positioning is making for very boring vids, bear with me and I'll have some vids up in the next 2 weeks. FYI the di sounds identical to the GT200 and a cab I played my guitarist some clips and he thought it was me playing.
tayste_2000
From Quimby
1 of 3 This was recorded to show Andrew what was wrong with it. this is when i first got it and the output was so high and the bass knob was not working and because of that i had to have the treble all the way off because it was to powerful. so this is it with no eq. http://www.ourinnocencelost.com/quimby/gain9oclock.mp3 http://www.ourinnocencelost.com/quimby/gain11oclock.mp3
This is the early development stages but you get the vibe from it.
