Clarky
I name my basses as they talk back to me. They say "Kill, Kill, Kill ..."
arsenic
Usually I don't name them - but - Iended up doing just that. The reason was that my other half didn't have a clue if I said "The Telecaster, "The Precision or whatever......so now it's "Red", "Angie" or "Blondie", and she refers to them as the Blonde, the Brunette and the Redhead.....or collectively - "The Tarts". Tait
only one i have a name for is my taitycaster. and thats because there is no other name for it, i built it myself, its not a copy of any bass, and so it needed a name! and taitycaster isnt a human name, its just a spin of telecaster because its kind of telecaster shaped and my surname is tait. all the others in the house are "the precision" or "the shuker" or "the ibanez" etc.
bigjohn
I have one bass with a name. It's called Harry Dagger. I found it's name scratched under the scratchplate. It's a black / rosewood string-through kalamazoo epiphone jazz bass kinda thing with an explorer headstock. It suits it's name.

Buzz
I was going to post how it's really wierd to name inanimate objects when you're an adult at least. I know I don't do it with any of my possessions as far as I'm aware. However, I then realised I posted a comment in regards to this post in the Porn section which unless I'm all confused, is one of Beedster's from back in the day, a certain white precision known as Kylie. That bass has been named and it's stuck. I think it will always be Kylie to those who own it (if they're BC members and know it's history). Hector
The only one of my instruments I've named is my upright, who is called Magda (she's a dark hungarian beauty...!). I feel such a connection and I spend a lot of time with her, so a name seems an appropriate way to express my affection. It's a lot like being in love, and personally I'm not comfortable being so loving with a dude.
JamieBenzies
I think that names are necessary if they somehow derive from the equipment's name. For example I call my lead singer's synth keyboard 'Synthia' (which I'm pleased to say has caught on, even after being caught drooling on her...don't ask), the other fine example is calling my Trace Elliot bass head 'Tracy' but that's just obvious... I'm yet to think of anything fitting for any other gear, but I'm sure with the amount of time spent alone and in recluse from Christmas this year I will have some good'ns :brow:
Golchen
I should call my bass 'Myleene Klass', I'm sure it would add a whole new level of enjoyment.
Basska
I named my bass Roxanne years and years ago. I don't actually call it Roxanne when I describe it. I don't ever say thing like "I play her", etc, etc. Wouldn't say there was something wrong with me for it tho haha. It's like naming a car. Some people do, some people don't! To me, I guess it just gives a sentimental value to the object really. Thunderbird's are absolute spac wagons

Ended up referring once to my Vampyre as Vanessa. Just thinking of Vanessa Warwick... the old Headbanger's Ball presenter on MTV. Unfortunately the name stuck... but I try not to use it around people. On the other hand, I used to spend a lot of time setting up servers which need network names and always found it so boring to use a naming scheme like apps002... so coming up with cool names was always the highlight of my job. beardybass
I don't name my basses, I used to but then I forgot what I called them all. My car's called Otis though. Named after Mr. Redding. Somewhat Ironic really, because it sounds like a hairdrier!
TheRev
I never named any of my basses until I got my Eminence EUB and for some reason I started calling it Barbara. I've since named my other basses but they haven't really stuck so they're usually 'the Sterling', 'the Aria' etc. but Barbara is always Barbara and never 'the Eminence'. Thinking about it, I always use the names when my other half asks which basses I'm taking - maybe it's more of a female thing? I never refer to any of them as 'she' though - people who refer to their cars as 'she' make me cringe.

tauzero
I played a gig the other night and the bass player from the other 'team' nudged me on the elbow and whispered 'wanna see me bass?' I replied with a reluctant yes at which point he did a drum roll with his mouth followed by the Carmina Burana vocal chant whipped it out out its case and said 'there she is, isnt she the most beautiful girl you've ever seen?' The whole experience sent shivers down my spine and the funny thing was his bass was an Epi Thunderbird!!!
I'd have thought "Quasimodo" would be an appropriate name for that. spinynorman
The worst I've seen was on a US forum, something like "Paula Pics Nekkid!!!" - pictures of a Les Paul bass with the finish sanded off. Yuk.
SteveO
I don't name my basses. IMO it's weird, but then again I haven't named the cat either. She responds to 'cat', and if I start calling her something else it might induce a multiple personality disorder .
iamapirate
Pearl, (my pearl-white fender usa jazz) has always been like a wife to me (hence the slapping). Goes well with my stage name 'clam' as well.
