Sean Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009
I loved the tone of my euro 5, but found it a tad neck heavy and a real stretch to the low frets. Anyone else find this?
My Euro5 is really light, well it's the lightest Euro5 I've ever tried and that's probably due to it being Alder/Poplar. I think the stretching is down to the fact that the top horn is a bit shorter than some basses and so it hangs slightly further away from you. I looked at this last night and can't say I noticed until I got intrigued by your post. Quote

In fact I seem to recall that for much of his time with AIC he was pictured with Warwicks! Just sayin'.
Cha, I know He was switching between the greyburst warwick and cherryburst spector. He did all the bass opening tracks (rain when I die, would? etc) with the Spector though and it sounded laaaably! In fact I believe it was this one: jizz Quote
Dan_Nailed Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 (edited) Old-school SSD there, from when Kramer owned the Spector name. Basically if you want growl, massive bottom end or like effects, can't go wrong with a Spector. I own 2 and sold one: REX2000/5 in Black - Sold this after putting EMG 40P5 and 40DC in it along with Fretware blocks and 18V mod. Was great but neckdived, sold it as it wasn't getting played. NSJH5CM - Fretless US Bolt on. Incredible, it was 40TW in the bridge and a 40J in the neck, but I traded the TW for a DC and never looked back. TW is warmer but I think the DC brings out the mwah a little more. Neck is superb, I prefer it to every other Spector neck if I'm honest. Euro 5LX - 2009 model with black hardware. Absolutely stunning, so close to the US neck through's it's untrue. I feel this is easier to play than other basses with thinner necks ie Ibanez just because it's "right". Tone is huge and the action is ridiclously low. I take the preamp out though, same on all my basses. Also, as for Alex Webster, I'd say he's more associated with Modulus than Spector. The last couple of Cannibal Corpse albums are Spector and you can hear the big, tight bottom end whereas his Modulus tone is a little dirtier. His Spector sounds best on the Blotted Science album though, and it's only running into a POD! P.S. If your Spector has EMG HZ's and the tone isn't quite "there" go for an 18V mod which is simple or consider changing to real EMG's. Best thing I ever did. Edited December 25, 2009 by Dan_Nailed Quote
cetera Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009
Soooo... Long story short, been ODing on Alice in Chains recently and been catching as many of their shows in the UK as possible, and I just can't get over how good Mike Inez's spector sounds. It's colossal! I've been lucky enough to play spectors before so I know I like how they play etc etc, but I am now seriously considering moving on a load of my basses (not the MTD, never letting that thing go, love it to pieces ) plus a load of other things to fund one. So yeah...just show me some Spector porn . And also talk me out of selling off my Pedulla and '78 P for this (they both are secondary to other basses so don't get used as much as they should). I'm eyeing a Euro4LX with a PJ config. Edit for spelling.
Hey Ash! There's nothing more I can really add to the praise of all things Spector that hasn't already been said. They really are magnificent basses, particularly the Euro and US ranges..... they look sexy, are incredibly comfortable to play and have the most almighty growl! One more thing..... I may have a couple of my prize Spectors for sale (don't worry, that still leaves any in my collection!). Nowt wrong with them.... I just need some dosh for a very special purchase! PM me if you are interested..... and this applies to anyone else too! Quote
Chris2112 Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 I just woke up in the night and thought "Bugger, if I hadn't sold my Spector that would have made an awesome fretless bass!" Quote
cetera Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 I've put a couple of LUSH Spectors up for sale on here now (see the Basses For Sale forum) ! ;o) Quote
