SMART Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 Try Thomastik Infeld Acousticores or Acoustic Bass strings which have been designed specifically for acoustic bass equipped with piezo pickups. Rick Turner uses nothing else on them on his acoustic electric basses, They have a nylon core and have a lot of give in them but the right balance for that real acoustic feel and sound. They're not cheap but some of the best. You get what you pay for. Give them a whirl! Dave Swift (Jools Hollands bass player) uses them on his Turner High Renaissance fretless bass and there isn't a sound like it!! Ciao Ian Quote
BassBod Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 I agree the Thomastiks are great sounding strings - the only ones I've found without a nasty "edge" to the sound. But (and its a BIG but) they are a pain to use at first - the gauges are unusually light (think Mark King..) and on top of that they are very flexible, so you will probably have to change bridge and nut (and probably truss rod) settings to make them playable. Also, acoustically they are soft - the lack of "clank" does make it a warmer sound but at the expense of acoustic impact - not an issue on a Turner bass but a consideration if you're planning to play unplugged. Bassman7 Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 They are that good and the points that Bassbod makes are spot on! Quote
The Burpster Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 I used a set of D'addario EXPP on teh Ovation that I had. the cahp I sold it to has subsequently doen a seesion on local radio and it recorded very well..... They might be worth a look, they are bright, easy to play and are coated so they dont go grotty quickly. Quote
