Illusion: listen for the great press roll drum fill coming out of the bridge
Dreadful guitar solo though.. he just runs out of ideas!

And Avoid the Funk
This track sounds like they're going to lose it right from the start.
The bass playing redeems it though

The Toto girl is Jenny Douglas..the other girl was a variable, Donna ????..and when I saw them at Shepherds Bush they had John James on BV's as well.

How about a little Junior Walker :)

Sound is a bit muffled but I rather like the bass man in this clip & there's even a little solo at around 3.30. . .

Re-working (though 20 years old now) by Aretha of her own song 'Think'.
Not necessarily better than the original, but it grooves along and there's no doubting Ms Franklins dulcet tones! :)

Ooh yeah, time to jump back in to the F&G thread.
I was going to post this track in the 'Late Night, Laid Back Music' thread but it belongs here just as much.
(Not sure if it's been posted here before, but 24 pages is a lot to trawl through! :) )

This thread is getting so long it needs an index! Sorry if this is already on here - had a Stax compilation on in the car today and this is just great:

Completely forgot this little riff from Leela James' album last year, remake of a Phyliss Hyman classic:

Quite like her take on the Stones' Miss You as well (some great guitar fills on this I think) :

Yeh, I like the turn towards the advent of hip hop here. Here's some more modern stuff from the east coast, forget that fat w*nker 50 Cent, THIS is the real talent to come from NYC and Philadelphia.

Just about the same time white people sucked the fun out of it too.
