Two top shouts there... I was going to post Sweet Power Your Embrace but went for my personal fave off that album. Both killer tracks though. Picked up Chic's Take It Off recently and it's great.

imo apart from EWF, the most influential underground soul funk band ever. although you may not realise it

Haven't posted here in a little while though try and drop in when I'm in need of a "funk fix".
Well done to bubinga5 for (at times almost single-handedly) keeping this thread going! ;)

Here's a late-night groove from Donald Fagen...

Bubinga, cheers for posting all that Pleasure stuff. I can't believe I hadn't really heard them until a few days ago (although I'd heard of Nate Philips). Future Now is a revelation. More for the transcription list!!

This is a monster groove played by a great groove player called Gary Foote I think. I believe the great Jonathan Maron also played on the CD.

Kudos to Bubinga for reminding me about this one.
There's any number I could have picked, but plumped for this seeing as it kicks off with the bass. Great playing/tone. Allen McGrier, I believe? http://youtu.be/FEFw_EnCuNE
So good! There's too much good funk in this thread - I'm getting a funk overdose!

+1, great tone on that vid.

Here's Queen Latifah's wonderful cover of my favourite Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band track, 'Hard Times' (one of my all-time favourite songs). It qualifies for this thread as it's a bit more groove-driven for this thread (though I might give in and post the original at some point!):
