This is my current favourite slice of soul / funk.

Love some of the playing on this:

For me it would be Friday on London. Trouble is, the Haggis Horns have a gig on the same date and I'm going to find that hard to resist :)

A tough choice indeed - I love the Haggis Horns too.

Actually, listening to that again, it's no contest. Haggis Horns it is. And I'll try not do what I did with Trombone Shorty last night ... miss the gig through it being sold out.

Dap kings were superb last night. Sharon Jones is incredibly funny, charismatic and vocally talented. The band super tight but not in a 'show-off' kind of way - really supportive and groovy.
I was expecting to see Gabe Roth on bass, but instead it was a girl introduced as 'Foxy H' or something. She looked pretty cool in a school uniform getup (not in a saucy way) playing her modified P Bass through an Ampeg 8x10 rig. Again, solid and supportive rather than flashy - perfect for that band. Highly recommended.

edit - found a pic of aformentioned bass player

Perhaps not everyone's piece of cake but I consider this to be funky and groovy...
Amazing what McCartney does on this track..a growly funky bass-sound and great fills.
Those who ever doubt how great Paul plays,,,

Although I love the original, this version is nice and groove-laden too.

Same story last year at the Roundhouse (same girl on Bass I think) ... maybe Gabe Roth doesn't like travelling ? :)
