Love that! I wonder if that was what gave Adam F the idea for this groove...

So similar.

Now this ain't Funk but it's certainly groove. A big filthy blues rock groove. With one of the filthiest slide gtr noises ever. Gotta love the filth!

Quite agree, but you might get shot down in flames by the jazz funk fascistas!

Paul Jackson "Hawk"

From the album 'Funk on a stick' (2005).
My favorite album of that year.
IMO the whole album is brilliant.

Ha ha. Probably! I don't get it tho. I've been playing Jazz funk since i was 17 as well as rock n roll. Don't see how ones better than the other or how one grooves more than the other. They are just different!

Never thought I'd see GnR in this thread!
Allow me to redress the balance...

Hmmm ... you can't shake yer booty to that ... which (speaking for myself here) is stretching the definition of groove to far.

Wow, just goes to show different people's definitions. I deliberately chose this after GnR to redress the balance as, to me, that song is the very essence of funk! Less so 'groove'. Perhaps there should be a 'Funk and/or Groove' thread :-)

I like the slower groove stuff.

This one proves it doesn't have to be about the bassline which is dead simple. I love the staccato brass and everything!

Nah ... I like this thread. Doesn't really matter if they're not all spot-on for me, because those that are, are real corkers.

How about a nice shifting Polyrhythm groove? 7/16 over 2/4.

I'm not necessarily averse to odd time signatures, just pieces of music where after 2 minutes I still can't figure out where the one is. (and neither can my feet)

I like this for instance ... and it has an undeniable groove.

Is that 7/4 ? Is definitely a 7 beat groove and I can tap my feet to it.

in terms of odd time grooves, how about this from Zep.

Does my head in. Undeniably funky though. Found this interesting commentary thread with this quote:

It would be almost impossible to dance to.

The reference at the end of the song is in humor." I'm just trying to find the bridge."
When we first heard the song on the radio we'd have been happy to just find the groove.

Man, that song is killing me. My body is thoroughly out of whack trying to move to it. This thread is awesome though. Big thanks to the people who posted Maze - Back in Stride and also introduced me to Dogg Master. The Maze song instantly makes me think of Beverley Hills Cop and Axel Foley running riot. How about these oldies:

Could post loads of Fatback but I hadn't heard this one before. Bit different to their usual.
