magee
I'm selling my black Precision. It's an S9 serial number bass, which means it's from 1979 to 1981. This is a cracker of a bass, it's got the trademark Precision thump and feels just lovely in your hands, really solid and even and beautifully put together. It's black with a black scratchplate and a maple fingerboard. It's in smashing condition, no major dents or scrapes or anything. The neck is beautiful, straight and with no issues at all. The action goes lovely and low and the neck has that broad, flat, comforting feeling the good Precisions have. This is not the world's lightest bass. Like many Precisions of the era it's on the heavy side. I don't find it a problem, I rehearse with it for three hours at a time no problem and gig with it without an issue. But if you need a lightweigh bass, this isn't for you. The upside of that, though, is that it's got a great big thumping tone, it feels solid and plays beautifully and sounds superb. It's a wrench to sell this, but I've sprung for another one and this one has to shuffle out the door to make fiscal room for it. So there we are. It's in Glasgow, £950 plus shipping. The finish on the 79 I had was falling off down to the wood!! Change in laquer or something I was told. Scratchplate looks good aswell....has this been in an attic?? Nice bass...wish I could afford it!

magee
Davetbass: thanks for the compliment. Not in an attic, it's been rehearsed and gigged quite a bit by me at least. I think it's just bombproof, to be honest. Maybe it's just a lucky bass. You're very welcome to pop through from the capital to have a noodle if you like, just for fun times, like, not to buy. Steve-soar: thanks, thanks very much. You've no idea how hard it is to find someone prepared to restore, and not just replace the leather on, art deco chairs with pressed motifs. Just a nightmare! Right, that's quite enough Good Housekeeping chat [coughs deeply, a la a Python lumberjack]. M
markorbit
Has anything been changed on the bass? Pickups etc? Is the pickguard original? Shouldn't there be a thumbrest above the 'E' or two holes there? Do you have the Fender case? cheers Mark
JPJ
Nice looking bass, do you still have the covers for the bridge and pickup, I think they were still standard at this age?
magee
Markorbit and JPJ: I'm afraid it's as you see it. There was no mention by the person who sold it to me of any changes or non-original parts, but it's a 30 year old bass so I can't make any guarantees, I'm afraid, except that it looks, plays and sounds great. So if your judgement is that things like the pickguard are non-original then best to assume that's true. I'm afraid my Fender knowledge is not nearly deep enough to tell. If you want any extra pics to help you make a judgement on something, do just ask. I don't have the original case or the covers, I'm afraid.
