Annoying Twit
This is, to my eyes, a really nice looking Tanglewood bass. So much better than the ones I see frequently in pawn shops. Is this one of the Cort-built Tanglewood basses? Annoying Twit
Thanks. Do any of the Cort Curbow basses have real wood bodies like the Tanglewood, or are they all Luthite and Ebonal like the Cort Curbows I see online?

Doddy
When the Cort Curbow was first released,it was actually branded as the Tanglewood Curbow-in the UK at least. It wasn't long before it was rebranded as Cort though.

This model was later rebranded as Cort, and Tanglewood since released the 'Canyon' which is similar aesthetically, but is made of wood, and has a different pick-up. Bassassin
Not sure I understand this as they are featured on the Tanglewood website and are for sale as Tanglewoods (and Hudsons, apparently).
They're manufactured by Cort, & the design's licensed from Curbow in the US. Cort sell them under their own brand name as well as badging them up with importer brands like Tanglewood & Hudson and no doubt dozens of others around the world. This is just the same as with vintage JapCrap - identical instruments from the same factory with various different brand names, basically the factory will stick any name on it that the customer wants. Same as it ever was... Jon.
4 Strings
Response from Tanglewood to my mail, asking of their origin: "Dear Greg, Thank you for your email. The basses are designed in the UK, the parts are sourced from Various countries and the basses are assembled in the Far East. They are given a further inspection before leaving our stores in Kent. Kind Regards,"

It's also made of Luthite and Ebanol-exactly like the Cort. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TANGLEWOOD-CURBOW-BA...m#ht_500wt_1182 Sounds to me like someone at Tanglewood either doesn't know much about the bass or really believes that the Canyon is an original design. I'm not trying to slag off Tanglewood-my first bass was an original 'Rebel'(not a 4k),it's great and I've still got it. 4 Strings
Perhaps the use of wood means a total redesign and production tooling/setting up, even if based on shapes used by Curbow. The electrics will be different too, as well as the truss rod, joints, routing etc.
El_JimBob
If i remember right, the Tanglewood Canyons appeared after Cort launched it's own range in the UK (including the luthite Curbow design, previously branded Tanglewood). I guess Tanglewood just decided to keep the design in their range, altho i suspect the Canyons dont carry the official 'Curbow' seal of approval, but are merely just a cash-in Tanglewood reps are renowned for their 'own version of events'.... 4 Strings
There's no reference to Curbow on the bass (apart from its obvious shape!). However, present impression is that its a decvent bass in its own right, even if the soldering was poor. Currenlty gets played every day and that can't be a bad thing. Yet to be used in anger. There's a couple on the dreaded ebay at the moment going for a song (certainly less than I paid anyway!) Greg
