I need a small powerful combo

i've got my main rig, but I need a new combo, for days that the whole band is squeezing in one car and space is at a premium.

Our drummer is really loud though (without being mic'd)

So I need an amp that will keep up with a very loud drummer, for smallish venues, and [u]as compact as possible[/u]

No other criteria is really important. My other choice is to take my bigger amps and drive myself- something I hate doing in London, what with parking, unloading etc.

What would you suggest?

Markbass CMD121H possibly. That keeps up with my shed builder and a couple of guitarists

dpending on your budget, have a look at the new Orange bass Terror head and one of their SP210 cabs. Compact and more versatile than a combo.

I was looking along the lines of Orange Bass Tiny Terror and one of their cabs. Definately portable enough but it is pushing onto a £1k

...and as for my suggestion I havejust remembered the list price they have got to recently - though I'm sure there ate deals to be had that wll undercut that a lot

A friend of mine just picked up a Markbass combo (2x10 wedge thingy IIRC) and was mightily impressed. He paid around £700 for an ex-demo one

He used to use a big rig (1x18 and 4x10) and that's now redundant

My weapon of choice is the GK MB150s,use this in a 5 piece blues band & also for jam sessions,for a really large venue I hook up a 1x12 ext cab,never run out of vol yet or needed to DI,also light enough for my arthritic frame to carry to the local pub (no I don't live next door),try one if you can,all the best, mike b.

Not sure how small you need it but I use an Ashdown ABM 300 combo which goes in my boot easily and has more than enough power for just about any gig - after which it can be fed therough the PA.

Markbass 2x10 combo as a 1st choice ( lightweight ) then followed by Eden or Redheads. All would be very useful against a loud drummer with a
ext cab if need be, IMO.

I have an eden metro combo for sale, 750w at 4 ohm, all you could ever want in tone and volume, I used it in a power rock trio and it was well loud enough. give me a shout if your interested.

Another +1 for the Markbass 2x10 wedgie combo thingy.
I have one & it can certantly drown out noisy drummers & guitarists if needed & weighs very little too!
You can even pop another cab under it if you ever needed more.

+1 for eden metro combo if you can stretch to the price.Best combo for size,power,eq I`ve bever used !!Alone it runs through it`s own 2 X 10 horn at 8 ohms ................ so always the opportunity to add on other cabs if you need to.A good used one brings the price down to a more reasonable level.

I'm selling my Trace v-type 1x15" combo. Plenty of power and 2 valve preamp for warmth or adding grit depending on what sound you like.

As I've said before its my idea of what a valve amp should sound like without the exprense of having to buy valves for it.

Markbass cmd121p yerstaday took it to a stage rehersal soundcheck ... The only thing i have to say the soundcheck man said please take the volume down I can't control the volume of the bass and was only halfway another drummer said is the first amp that sounds so full for the size

+1 on the MB CMD121P, I've owned one but they're a very clean sound which might not be to your tastes... or a cheaper alternative is the new Ibanez Promethean range, which I have and is rather good.

To me, small means 10" or poss 12". A 10" will not fight with a full on drummer, I do not care what anyone says. It might for 2 gigs but then it will die.

I use a Mackie 10" wedge (SRM350) for non aggressive drummer things when I need small. The 350 is much nicer than the 450 (I have those as well). The 450 runs out of headroom pretty quickly but the 350 is very nice indeed.
