STRING SPACING ADVICE PLEASE

howdy,

when we talk about string spacing, where do we get out measurements from?

obviously the string spacing is narrower at the neck than the bridge.

When someone says string spacing is 17mm, what part of the bass is this dimention from?

Generally it's taken at the bridge.

Usually at the bridge - middle of string to middle of next string

centre -to-centre (but not always, some talk of space from one outer edge to the next, so be careful)
Most will also say string spacing at the nut as well as the bridge.

Of course there's always the spacing between the 12th fret and the bottom E string, but that's another topic...

my yam is 19...and i bet most 4's are
so we can put on substitute bridges without any problem and pups polepieces are in line with the strings

my fender was 19

As mentioned, some companies (Alembic for one) use "centre to centre" at the nut, but outer edge of string to next string at the bridge.
