4 candles
howdy, when we talk about string spacing, where do we get out measurements from? obviously the string spacing is narrower at the neck than the bridge. When someone says string spacing is 17mm, what part of the bass is this dimention from? Many thanks for your help on this matter Regards Mark
GreeneKing
Generally it's taken at the bridge.

Al Heeley
centre -to-centre (but not always, some talk of space from one outer edge to the next, so be careful) Most will also say string spacing at the nut as well as the bridge. iamapirate
Of course there's always the spacing between the 12th fret and the bottom E string, but that's another topic...

Spoombung
Average spacing is 18mm. While we're on the subject, can anyone tell me the Fender Precision string spacing? I heard it was 19mm...

BassBod
As mentioned, some companies (Alembic for one) use "centre to centre" at the nut, but outer edge of string to next string at the bridge.
