Brave Sir Robin
I came to see Alan today and collect the bass. When Alan unveiled it, my jaw hit the floor really hard! Absolutely b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l. from every angle. Flawless really! The sound possibilities are really huge. From dub to clank. The pre is very versatile, and the coil switches add some extra oumph and options especially on the bucker. Playing on the neck or bridge also adds more as well. The neck profile is asymetric, and super comfy. Upper fret access is perfect, balance is perfect, weight is good (I'd say around 9, 9 1/2 pounds), comfortable to play standing or sitting. In an odd way, reminds me of my K5 that was so easy to play it just wasn't even an issue. Alan set the action very, very low and fret buzz is non existent. I will need to add a little relief as I am a digger. ...now you can start drooling....
Brave Sir Robin
... and now you can start breathing! I'll be going at the UK bassday in Manchester on the 9th November, and so will the bass in Alan's display. my god... How am I ever gonna be able to catch some sleep this weekend. Playing my repertoire all night, looking at it all day...
7string
That really is a superb bass. Just looks awesome from every angle. Who needs sleep anyway
steve-soar
God that's lovely, I'll try to get mine on Alans display, who else is going? That top is top-tastic.
charic
Out of interest could you describe the feel of the neck in more detail? I ask because I'm now saving for the deposit on an acg ill have to try and make that bassday
Brave Sir Robin
feels great, very smooth. In fact, 1/2 way between the k5 and the corvette (also wenge) would be what I would describe it. It's oil finished, slightly fatter than the k5, with a flat fingerboard radius. All as per request. The neck gets thin towards the body (asymetric) so access is very easy. The shape itself is not dissimilar to the k5. Flat D profile I recon. The Corvette is rounder, the K5 is a wee bit thinner. but I'm sure Alan can work with you on the specs you want. Brave Sir Robin
Yeah, I'm a big fan of 'antique furniture' finish I also think it will age better as well. As it's a bass that will stay with me until I'm worm food! Edited August 26, 2008 by Brave Sir Robin
eude
So dude, been a wee while now, how you getting on with your ACG then? Eude
Brave Sir Robin
very well! I haven't posted clips (too lazy I suppose). The tone shaping options are huge. Each pickup can be made to sound like anything (but not quite the Fender bridge pickup burp). The asymetric neck is very comfortable, the bass is light (lighter than my corvette 4), very comfortable to play standing up, although sitting down, the balance gets more horizontal. One small flaw is the placement of the neck pickup, slapping is done over the pickup (which is still no problem, and for the record, that was my decision). I tend to favour series for the bridge pickup in series, cutting the lows (to get a stingray vibe), and I use the neck to give more low mids and more of a single coil flavour. I'm also having fun with the neck pickup in mud mode, with loads of fundamentals (dub sound), or a in a Ric' configuration (For Tool stuff). I haven't tried it with the Sansamp yet. It's still shockingly beautiful

Brave Sir Robin
Aye, I love it. It's a great instrument, and I don't think I could have asked for more. Alan knows his stuff!
