saxobass
Just been offered a 5 string fretless Steinberger. Any thoughts? Don`t know anything about them and I`ve never played a 5 string. No idea of value either. A paragon of ignorance here, then!!!
Pete Academy
Which model is it?
Cairobill
How interesting...if it's an old school 100% carbon bass that looks like a paddle it's a pretty rare bird...and a very, very nice bass....if it's got any wood in it forget it.... philw
Fretless five string L or XL series Steinbergers, if that's what it is, make hen's teeth look common as muck. They are very rare beasts and much in demand (despite the narrow sting spacing thanks to five strings on a four string neck). Phil

Phil
I tried one at the Bass Centre years ago,and found it nearly unplayable with the narrow string spacing...a four string bass, converted to a five string is exactly what i thought at the time. foal30
there are wide neck 5 XL's available certainly A.R.A.H.T have a look in the battery compartment if it says Brooklyn in there it could be a wonderful Xmas around your way
Bassman
the new Steinberger 5strings'neck is maple with rosewood fingerboard and haven't EMG pickup, called Spirit The old one (XL2) has the neck/fretboard in composite and EMG pickup If you upgraded her with EMG pick up you should arrive to get the "real" sound of a Steinberger

saxobass
No way of telling which model until it is delivered. I`ll then report on model and price. Cheers!

saxobass
Will report a.s.a.p. Possibly a bit later as I am going into hospital next week. They are giving me a stent for Xmas.....gift wrapped I hope! Incidentally.....what`s wrong with the wooden ones and what is the Steinberger sound?
foal30
there is nothing intrinsically wrong with wooden Steinbergers it's just unnecessary if you want a wooden bass buy a Fender if you want graphite buy a Steinberger what is the sound of Steinberger? phew... well the L2 is tonally versatile. this I realize is a terrible answer I like old strings, neck pup full, tone off, bridge pup 10% thumb w/ palm mute it is fair too say this would be an atypical Steinberger use potentially. try Elton John "I guess why they call it the blues" here is an original Steinberger poptastic Dee Murray
saxobass
yes keep us in the loop please interest well piqued
Well here it is with pictures! The owner wants as near as he can get to £300 for it. If anyone is intersted phone Phil on 01626 773400.
Pete Academy
That doesn't look like a Steinberger to me.
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE
No disrespect, but that is no steinberger. I think it looks like a (very) poor imitation. Run as fast as you can from this Edited January 15, 2010 by RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE
Doddy
I've never seen a Steinberger like that. I'm pretty sure it isn't one.
philw
I'm closer to being a size zero catwalk model than that is to being a Steinberger. Owner wants £300 does he? How well does he deal with disappointment?. P
Stacker
I think that's a Cort, made in the far east. No way that's a Steiny. Leave it, mate; it's a dog. Looks like it's had a bad refin, too. Spend your £300 on a Fender Squier or a day at the races but leave that thing alone.
saxobass
Point taken fellas......I`m on me way. In fact I had my doubts and had already said I wasn`t interested. Coat`s on- I`m gone. Cheers all.
foal30
99% sure it is a Cort also thinking it was not originally a 5 if you want an imitation I think Hohner B2 is well worth a go
Pete Academy
http://www.bass-guitar-museum.com/bass-130...ESS-BASS-GUITAR Yep, it's a Cort. Not worth 300 quid.
The Burpster
Oh dear what a bag of poo. A de-fretted 5 string Cort thats been used as a Tali-ban barricade for £300....... Oh I think not!
bassatnight
I think this shows the benefits of putting your potential buys on here for us all to help with; a disaster averted me thinks...
saxobass
Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!It is a Cort (tuners licensed by Steinberger). Very embarrassing for me as I stuck it in the `for sale` section for the present owner to help him out. Deluged with pics and info! Red face!
