Owned a real one in 1980. Couldn't get rid of it quick enough. Talk about neck dive.

I like the price but 95% feedback on EBay causes me some concerns. He's only got 3 as a seller and somebody wasn't happy (stating the fretboard was coming away from the neck). HE could have been unlucky but I'd want more reassurances before buying

I think this is an Italian-made Melody copy (M logo on the headstock) - someone on here had one a year or so ago, I expect a bit of searching might turn up some info.

Never seen a Melody in real life, but I had a no-brand Japanese one a while back - it was a ringer for the real deal & I probably should've kept it.

Yep, it looks exactly like my one I sold..... I'm sure it was to someone in the Sunderland area too. Nice 'basic' bass but the sliding pickup was a bit noisy/microphonic.

I'd be wary - just because it's rare doesn't mean it will be any good. It's a nice price but you might have to do quite a lot of work to make it playable. Note that most of the info on the ad pertains to a real Gibson Grabber, and not what you're bidding on, never a good sign. For that kind of cash you could get a modern copy of something like a Jazz that you know would be well-made and playable.

I had a maple fretless one last year that I cleaned up. Mine also had the microphonic pickup and sounded terrible. Ended up selling it to someone in the US who spent as much on postage as they did on the bass.

There we go:

I had one in about '78. The body seemed more like pine than maple, almost like a cheap Ikea table, but the wood on this looks a bit better from the poor quality photo. Tone wise, not too bad, but sounded a bit cheap. The pickup is not very good, as others have said, but any humbucker size one should fit and be an improvement.
These are really nothing special, and certainly not some amazing closet secret wonder find.
I wouldnt pay more than a ton for it (unless you're really into the look, in which case a bit more)
Hope this helps

If you want a Grabber copy, you might be as well waiting for a JapCrap one to come up. My old one:

Yep - wish I'd kept it. :)

That just about describes the Gibson Grabber that i owned,in about 1980.It also cost £120.It was a huge toilet seat shaped piece of landfill.
