The Shrek
Hey Guys Need to downsize due to a Knackered back I have Eden and Gk rigs which I have not used for 2 years (and will be selling shortly)as I play very little and only playing very small gigs. Have seen a few ads for these GK combo amps (MB210)which are supposed to be superlight but can't find out much bout them. Anyone out there have one or tried one and can give me an opinion Michael
Magnolia
I'd be interested to hear opinions on these as Im looking to get a decent lightweight amp/rig. The only place i can find that sells them is http://www.dv247.com/guitars/gallien-krueg...mp-combo--70248 I might have to pop into the Romford store and try one out. Magnolia
I have just had a good read through reviews from across the pond and they have had great reviews. The MB115 is rated 200w 8ohm, the MB210 is 350w 8ohm or 500w 4ohm with an extension. There is also a MB212 which is 500w 4ohm. Only issue I can see is the Pre DI. Can get a better look at them here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UH9h8_R4aA0...feature=related Im about to take a chance and order a mb210 now. I have found them a few hundred cheaper (and in stock) http://www.thomann.de/gb/gallien_krueger_mb210.htm Nick
rasher80
Weight ca 15kg? That's even lighter than my Genz rig! how are they doing it??
Magnolia
Incredible isnt it. How they pack that much power into something that is superlight. Bob Gallien said that they have used a few weight saving tricks. Thin aluminium instead of steel for the front gril. The 210 & 212 are both neo speakers. Smaller cabinets. The head unit they are using is pretty much the new MB2 500 but with a few small differences. That only weights 3lb! I can't wait to get mine. chris_b
The MB150 is good but because of its size it only has limited tone, and even GK's own site doesn't feature the MB210 yet!! If you want to "down weight" rather than "down size" then I'd check out the Markbass LM2 and Barefacedbass Compact combination. They can go quiet or loud, are very light and because they are full sized they have the full range of tone options. The Compact is 26lbs and even lighter if you put it on a trolley. I think the LM2 beats the micro amp competition for full bodied tone. As always IMO IME
