guybrush threepwood
I'm currently working on a precision project, and I have some spare tuners which I'm going to put on the bass. However, when I put the bushes into the holes cut for them, they are loose and fall out if the neck is turned over. Any ideas of how to get them to stay in? Is it ok to use a bit of glue? hillbilly deluxe
You could try silicon sealer,if you need to take them back out for any reason, they will be easier to get out than if you had used glue.Quick fix ? wrap with tin foil ? yorick
How loose are they? If they rattle, you may get a way with some plumbers' thread tape, or insulation tape. If they're not that loose, use bostik, unless you want a more permanent fit, then use Araldite or superglue.
guybrush threepwood
Ah... both excellent ideas, thank you very much!
Legion
I once used Evo-Stick impact adhesive (for the same problem) it keeps them nicely in place but is not so tough that when you want to take them out again you can do so without too much effort. neepheid
I wedged some really loose ones in by wrapping them in a strip of wood veneer (0.6mm thick) and driving them home with a mallet. Reversible and solid. Some of them were less loose, and so a full wrap was too much so I wrapped them about 3/4 round the circumference. Nowadays though I always use tuners with screw fit bushings, so much more reliable and convenient.
bigjohn
I've removed fender factory fitted bushes before to find a bit of masking tape wrapped on them. So that's what I've done since.
guybrush threepwood
I'm glad that Fender take a 'Heath Robinson' approach, that definitely bodes well with me. I can just picture Leo Fender in the 1950's, taking a step back from a problem in the workshop, scratching his head, and then reaching for a roll of gaffa tape.
