Okay so I have only just re picked up my bass after a while. I never really took the instrument seriously, only learning the tabs to a few songs etcetera. Now I'm back playing it and I learnt a few muse songs to get my head around playing the instrument again but I'm kinda lost. What do you guys suggest I should do or where to go from now? Any routines that I should fall into or any genres I should look into or even any books that I should buy?

Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

think of the different aspect of playing bass, write them down and work through them...IMO :)

Find a tutor and make sure you learn the dots and theory as well as playing.
You'll be able to play all sorts of genres then.
A year's tuition will accelerate your overall progress so that you get a long way in a relatively short period.
