Starting afresh...

Okay so I have only just re picked up my bass after a while. I never really took the instrument seriously, only learning the tabs to a few songs etcetera. Now I'm back playing it and I learnt a few muse songs to get my head around playing the instrument again but I'm kinda lost. What do you guys suggest I should do or where to go from now? Any routines that I should fall into or any genres I should look into or even any books that I should buy?

Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

difficult to say,
muse's bass player is awesome.
start with some good dub reggae if you like that kind of thing, get your 'ear' and then go rock or funk or whatever floats your boat !

think of the different aspect of playing bass, write them down and work through them...IMO

Find a tutor and make sure you learn the dots and theory as well as playing.
You'll be able to play all sorts of genres then.
A year's tuition will accelerate your overall progress so that you get a long way in a [i]relatively[/i] short period.
