Warwick Adam Clayton Reverso Bass

and here's my bit.......


I think many of us were just shocked/stunned etc at the departure of what you would expect a 'U2' bass to look like. I thought a Lakland deal was on the cards with the departure of the DJ model and the positive comment's on the 'Adam Clayton DJ'

As for his playing I have to echo those who say he's a great example of what a bass player should do. Many more progress to other things but I think the majority of people would want to listen to U2 over Jerry was a race car driver! I like bass to sound like bass - not a cross between timpani, bass and a busted guitar - but thats just me :rolleyes:

I wonder if AC dreams of working in an office as he stands there in front of millions of people plodding away on his bass :)

I find it ironic that Adam Clayton was actually the reason I learned bass in the first place. However, the more I progressed I found it a bit boring after I got into the Who and other bands with more technically involved playing and certainly everything U2 have done post Pop is the most dull uninspiring tosh to play ever as it's not challenging or to my money interesting in any way to play. Maybe I'm being harsh though. It could just be U2 went a bit rubbish after 97. At least in my eyes.

For me though, the crime is not the fact that someone who plays relatively simply should play an insane looking bass that is in fact merely a precision with an upside down explorer shape, the crime is that of Warwicks for thinking that any number of pseudo John Entwistle rip-offs are acceptable.

What's with the buzzard headstock on everything? Just. Stop. It.

I think that for what Clayton does in U2 he's great at it, it's just not my cup of tea.

On the other hand, think how bad it might have been if Warwick had got Guy Berryman from Coldplay to endorse a really flashy bass. Now that would just be totally wrong on every level imaginable. To paraphrase someone else's comment, that's not even 8th note plodding, that's quarter note plodding.... :)

I like U2, and would put parts of their first few albums as my fave music ever.

I remember listening to "War" over and over again when I was meant to be revising for my O levels. Fantastic music - there has been little in the way of anything as fresh and new to my ears since (well, The Smiths maybe, just after, now Andy Rourke....).

Edge was what made me learn lead guitar, and I slavishly learnt all of "Blood Red Sky" note for note, again during O level revision time lol.

I would love a job as Adam or Edge in a U2 tribute. I would happily take either slot. I have the "U2 by U2 book" - good read but too bloody heavy to read in bed. lol

In 1981 I had just bought my first cheap bass (an imitation Stagg Rickenbacker) and I learned to play bass with the "Boy" album. Took me a long time but I loved the basslines of An Cat Dubh, Twilight, Out of control and it was an excellent lesson to keep tempo on "Into the Heart" (it looks simple but it isn't, Clayton does a great job keeping time on his own).
I prefer the U2 repertoire including Achtung Baby but afterwards I lost track a bit but every now and then there is still a great song that pops up (Stuck in a moment, Vertigo).
I moved on from Clayton to Mark King to Pastorius to Palladino to Wooten etc. He was a necessary part in my chain of bass-playing.
The most amazing thing is that U2 are still together. The pressure and the tension must be immense at certain moments but they cope with it and they keep trying to re-invent themselves.
They don't always succeed but at least they try.
Have the same friends for more than twenty years is a thing some of us rarely accomplish, so imagine how challenging it must be to be in a room with the same three musicians, over and over again without the tempting thought of "solo-albums".
And like someone said : Clayton does always have a great sound, it changed but it drives the band.

Not the first time: last summer i saw the 8-string Entwhistle bass at the Dublin Hard Rock Café...
John was a great bassman and bass collector, Adam is a good bassist and bass collector. And i think his Reverso is horrible, it seems to be escaped from a Cronenberg movie.

Just seen a bit on the Adam Clayton bass in this months guitar and bass, NAMM report. Guess the price? Go on!

£6299!!! (Sorry if it`s in one of the older posts).

It`s like paying for a night out with Kylie and Joe Brand turns up.

I don't get it at all. I never associate Adam Clayton with Warwick regardless of how the bass looks. I always thought the point of a sig bass was that the player was somehow associated to that brand or particular instrument. Perhaps I'm wrong. And apologies for my appalling grammar, damned educational failings.
