Help[/quote] Either. Put a good signal in, no matter what it is, you've got something good to work with. If you are used to using an active sound, use that, if you are a passive man, use that. You can carve/shape/squash that but the quality of every item in the input chain directly affects what the engineer can do with it down the line. My preference is for a good quality passive bass at the start of the input chain. It tends to provide for a fuller starting position. Fairy dust can be added from there.
