Mickeyboro
Danny Thompson offered me outside once. Mistaken identity, but I wouldn't want to cross him, jovial though he may be!

acidbass
Great interview, I've recently been in touch with him via email, seems like a really nice genuine fellow. Tip - don't get him started on EUB's! Very touching when he talks about John Martyn. Hopefully going to see him play on 4th Feb, can't wait! Mistaken identity, but I wouldn't want to cross him, jovial though he may be![/quote] I saw a documentary about John Martyn several months ago, and according to Martyn they had quite a few 'physical arguments'! Both were quite handy. Great interview. I've only just got into Nick Drake and John Martyn and love Thompson's playing. Both a great loss. This is quite ironic as almost 20 years ago myself and 2 mates went to see him play live. We went expecting rock music I suppose, from the list of artists he had played with and for. We didn't expect folk/jazz and came out thoroughly fed up. I think we were too young and naive to appreciate what we had seen and probably wasn't helped by being of an altered state of consciousness. Marvin
Good piece about Nick Drake on The Culture Show last night. Danny Thompson is contributing to a tribute concert to Drake's music. He always comes across as a really genuine geezer.
thinman
Does Thompson say what he's quoted as saying in the Patrick Humphries biography? IIRC it was along the lines of "all he [Drake] needed was a bacon sandwich and a good shag". Edited January 23, 2010 by thinman
