I've just had a quick look at how others do this (as I didn't know how) you place the youtube vid name inside tags in this format.

*youtube*mrav_MSMjNs*/youtube*

replace the * with opening and closing square brackets. so you should see

Or pless reply to this post and you've see how it works :)

EDIT: Also found this on the subject http://www.paramedicweb.info/ipb/index.php...st-ipboard-231/

Basically you navigate your web browser to the yotube vid. you want to embed, then you grab the bit after the = sign from the address bar and enclose it with so for example I was looking at a Mark King vid on youtube, the url is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yioVmqlt2Fk, so we take the bit after the = which is yioVmqlt2Fk, now we create our message and place yioVmqlt2Fk between , thus
Although I am in general not in favour of fretboard pyrotechnics, I do enjoy the occasional bass solo. Which one(s) are the most well executed, cleverly constructed and beautiful to your ears?

I am guessing there will be plenty of votes for Willy Week's 'Voices Inside' from the Donny Hathaway live album, Jaco's "A remark you made" and "Havona" and from the punk contingent (Wayne!) Rancid's "Maxwell Murder"

I will throw in a left-field one - the gorgeous double bass solo on "Topplue, Votter and Skjerf" by Miroslav Vitous on Terje Rypdal's album "To be Continued". Here is a link to a free (slightly lower quality than MP3) version, the solo is at 1:27. Just click on "Prelisten Track" http://ligamusic.com/Lyrics/2943917/Terje_...f/download-mp3/
Same here, dude. Geddy Lee does some fantastic stuff.

Other than that, just some of the songs already mentioned...The Who's 'My Generation' and Cliff Burton's 'Anaesthsia/Pulling Teeth'. It's hard to pick a favourite, tbh.
Sorry to be so samey but my vote's got to go to Vic too. So many amazing solos...

I just stumbled upon this little gem yesterday, a great little solo on The Beatles' Yesterday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcXI74PaI2w...feature=related
It's good but I really do not get it. Its seems like something a guitar would play, it even sounds like a guitar but its played on a a bass. Why does he not just play a guitar.

Please note: Not dishing old Vic, he is a superb player but I just don't get the point of this on a bass if its going to sound like a guitar.
what is worth a mention is Pino P's fretless doodle on Nick Heywards middle 8 of "Take that situation" circa '82/83
I couldn't find it on youtube but ...christ..... I love that stuff!!
the whole bass line "drips" groove ...
Pino..........up there with the VERY best....
+1

Awesome stuff that!

Somebody also mentioned Brian Ritchie's solo on Violent Femme's "please do not go", another stunning, musical solo.
Muzz Skilling's solo on Living Colour's "Broken Hearts" from Vivid is pretty cool as well.

To me too! Sounds like the Chuckle Brothers now!!

That clip does nothing for me. I can see that it is technically challenging, but I wouldn't want to listen to it and I have no desire to be able to play like that. Horses for courses!! :)

not sure if this qaulifies on all three counts - there are plenty of beautiful bass solos - perhaps the most beautiful for me is Gary Willis' incredible solo on 'Hymn' from his No Sweat album (it's astonishingly gorgeous and knocks me out every time I listen to it)...

but for sheer audaciousness I love Wooten's doubled guitar solo with Mike Stern on Palmystery on the track Left, Right and Centre - I met him after the London Jazz Fest Flecktones gig last year and asked him how he did this and he said he listened to Mike Stern's solo and learnt it section by section and recorded it a bit at a time - though the end result just sounds like the most impossible unison line ever... but it's all just a Mike Stern solo in one take that Victor doubles perfectly - have a listen:

Hope you dig it - I think that's seriiusly cool :)

Yeah Carles is great - as are the rest of that band. Saw them about 4 or 5 years ago at the Barbican I think. Really taken by his style.

To say I'm not impressed by the technical ability of Marcus's solo here would be a lie. It's just that I'm so inspired by the fashion that everything else takes a back seat.

Since first watching this video my wardrobe has gradually seen an influx of saggy wifebeaters and massive trackie bottoms. Also, whenever I'm on a gig with an alto sax player, quite without realising it I often end up next to him doing the same weird grooving leg dance during his solo.
