Mr. Foxen Posted December 3, 2012 Author Posted December 3, 2012 Dunno why people say they aren't serviceable from that. All proper components, much more accessible than the inside of an Ampeg or Mesa. Quote
VTypeV4 Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Not quite amp but I think it's still relevant.. I have been using my old goodmans as quiet sub at home for the past few years when the other day it begin to develop a slight paper-like flap. Closer investigation showed it's HF cone dome had started to come loose. I decided to install the old EV I'd got knocking about and fix the Audiom 15-P at a later date. It didn't sound right at first but after a magnet gap clean and a magnet re-alignment it sounds great. I can only assume that the cone assy had sunk in the last 33 years (this is the one I had for sale with an EVM cone on SRO chassis) and just needed a slight tweak. Very simple, much like a PV Black Widow to with it's magnet. Either that or the guy that did the re-cone in 1980 didn't do a very good job? As for the Goodmans, I have fixed it and it's sat waiting for it's next job. I will re-install it one day but the EV will probably put up with being a lightweight sub better so it can stay for a bit.. Quote
VTypeV4 Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 I couldn't help myself by just messing with one of my WEM cabs could I? No, I couldn't.. So I got myself this vintage Celestion on the cheap from a very pleasant gentleman.. I removed the (perfectly serviceable) 4 ohm HH drive unit from the cab. It's actually a really good speaker thats taken a lot of use and abuse over the last 15 years including bass guitar, heavy synth and PA subwoofer duties when needed. I have also grossly over-powered it's 150w rating by using it hard with a 500w amp and it's never complained. Why am I taking it out of service? Not sure yet.. The new/old (1975) G15C loaded into the cab just before I bolted it into place. I haven't had a chance to run it up yet but I like the idea of running it with my old 60w head if nothing else, just to see how it sounds. I understand these drivers were popular in double fifteen bass enclosures of the day.. Quote

VTypeV4 Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 (edited) What we got here then? Upper pic looks to be something like a Soundcity and the lower a pre-amp of some description? More speaker changes my end, just making sure this 2225H was healthy. Mr. Foxen Posted August 22, 2013 Author Posted August 22, 2013 I've actually forgotten what the upper pic is, think it is the Viking PA, sort of like a selmer, needed loads of work that wasn't economic so on the duffer pile until it is worth it. Lower one is a burman preamp. Quote
Twincam Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 Think it's time for this thread to come alive again. I have a few pics nothing too exciting. Will upload later on. Hopefully the thread will get some more posters, although the gear porn section isn't the most visited area. Quote
Billy Apple Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 This is my '81 Marshall Super Bass. A superb amp, great tone and very low noise (if any at all). You can see from the QC sticker that it was assembled by Rita and tested by Dennis. I called Marshall about the amp when I bought it and they told me Rita was Jim Marshall's wife at the time and Dennis has only just retired. So a nice bit of pedigree and heritage. Quote
Billy Apple Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 My Burman MPA SL100. Pics are just of the SL power pack. Guts.. Top.. If this is not the most sexy brutal steam punk transformer, I don't know what is!... Quote

Beer of the Bass Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 Very tidy example, that Superbass. I've been looking at a lot of pictures of Marshall wiring lately, to try and pick up hints for my own build in a Marshall style, and they're not all as neat as yours. Quote
It's a strange chassis, a quarter of it is empty. I guess they had one size fits all, but both transformers are over on one side so it carries lop-sided. Someone told me this was to help roadies get them through doors!. I'm wondering if it was all so they could sit smart on the 412 cab, but this amp comes alive with modern cabs, but looks sh*te with the over-hang. I'll see if I can dig-out a pic of my old Matamp GT200 as that a nice dress too. Quote
