Double bass in a Ford Mondeo Hatchback?

Double bass in a Ford Mondeo hatchback anyone? Is it possible?

Hi Steve,
I've had a DB in a micra so I'd be very surprised if you couldn't get it in a mondeo.

Crikey.. Yes, no problem... and amp, stool, passenger the lot. Had one a few years back and it was great. One of my exes used to get two timps and a pile of other tuned percussion in to a Mondeo hatch... tons of space.

Thanks chaps. Next question... double bass lying flat on its back in a Mondeo hatchback? Or, on it's side with the neck sticking between the front seats?

I'd put it on it's side with the neck between the front seats-that'd leave you more room
to put your accessories in.
The Mondeo will easily take the bass-I used to fit mine in my KA with no problem

Years ago I got one in the front of an Escort with the body on the front seat (end pin to ceiling) and the neck in the foot well. If the body isn't too wide, its actually a perfectly credible way of transporting the thing. (Seatbelt recommended!!)

Diagonal - bottom behind front seats, scroll in corner at boot. You can lie it on it's back. Or on it's side if you've lots of other gear.

Ford Cougar (which uses the older Mondeo floor plate - and has a smaller cabin but a larger boot), and I can get one in, along with a combo. Place pretty much as already described: body behind front passenger's seat, placed diagonally, on its back - combo goes behind the driver's seat, with all the accessories in the other free boot corner. Keep three old duvets in the boot for protecting and stabilising gear.

So, over two years later and I'll finally be able to see if my double bass fits in a Mondeo, first-hand!!

I ended up buying a Vectra in 2010 instead because it was local and cheap, but am picking up a Mondeo on Friday.

Sweet car-buying times.

+1 Thats how I transport ours in the '96 BMW 3 series. Damnably tough getting gear in or out of that car, to the point of complete frothing at the mouth on occasion

I was once very pleased with myself for getting a double bass in a Fiat Ciquecento (courtesy car - I didn't actually own one).


I did also hear of someone getting his double bass and amp etc into a mini, someone was telling me a few years back.

Then there was the guy who used to take his double bass on his bike! So he could have a drink....!!!

Hey, Cougar here too. I measured the bass before I bought the car to fit. What a motor. A van disguised as a coupe.

Mini van and it was a piece of cake.

I had no problems fitting my 3/4 inside my Austin A.30, and it still left room for a drumkit in the boot and a drummer in the back seat.

I've seen two double basses and a ukulele in the back of a Pug 306.

In my Chevrolet Aveo hatchback, also called the Kalos, made in the old Daewoo factory, I routinely carry to gigs (with the rear seats folded down): double bass, Carvin MB-12 combo, 1X15 extension cab, electric bass, stands, music, etc., and after one gig in particular, I even was able to fit another bass guitar and a 3/4 BBb tuba that I brought home to work on for a friend!

I want to really thank you for your posts. It never occured to me that I could get my DB in my car (Saab 93 ), but neck down in the foot well, front seat wound back, headrest off, and it fits! You have save me from buying an estate, which I didn't really want.
