vmaxblues
My main bass is a warwick Dolphin Pro 1, in a painted black/red finish (see my acatar), it has a bolt on neck and two J pickups. It has one of the thinnest Warwick necks I have ever played and has a fabulous growl. I have never seen another one like it with that configuration. Does anyone know anything more about this. It isn't the Japanese Series 2, it is a German made pukka Warwick, and I was once told it was a special order and quite pricey. Any info would be gratefully recieved
budget bassist
it could well be a custom shop order, i've seen bolt on JJ config dolphins before, though i couldn't say where or provide any links, as i can't remember!

If it happens to say Pro I on the truss rod cover then someone has retrofitted it at some stage in it's life. When they originally tried to introduce these in 90/91 the production wasn't 'in-house' but was subcontracted to a German company, however Warwick weren't happy with QC and I don't think they ever went into full production. Production was immediately moved to Japan where they were produced as your bass is with JJ pups and there were a variety of colours, I can't recall ever seeing a natural finish bass (no CS as there was no such thing in the Japanese production) and I don't think I've seen too many red/black basses. As you say they are a lovely bass and the necks are significantly slimmer than virtually any of the later BO basses. What year is your bass? <edit> I was asking about the year as I can't recall if these basses ceased production in the 90's or if they managed to continue into the next Millennium. vmaxblues
It is interesting what you say, and you may well be right but I have had a Pro II and moved it on as it wasn't a patch on this one, the neck on the proII i had looked like maple and the neck profile wasn't as good, this one is a darker wood and needs waxing. This is a far better quality than the II I had, so I really don't know what to think.

The 'I' and 'II' marker was to differentiate between NT & BO basses not to differentiate between a mkI (earlier) or a mkII (later) bass. If you've owned a pair of BO neck Dolphin basses then you've owned a pair of Pro II basses. You'd be right in thinking that the Pro II is a stonking bass, in fact the reason that they stopped producing them was because they were financially a nightmare for Warwick and they gave the Pro I NT bass a good run for it's money. Cheers Stuart[/quote] I'm sorry if it came across as 'putting you right' Stuart. You'd asked for info and as with any bass or manufacturer there are loads of stories and anomalies but some things are simply statements of fact and the 'I' / 'II' comments I made were simply recounts of the model line-up; a bit like say the difference between a jazz and a Precision... bad analogy actually as they blur a bit a Sadowsky NYC and Metro might be better! vmaxblues
Hi Mate, I wasn't being sarcastic at all, although I can see how you might think so. I am actually grateful for the input. Cheers Stuart
