If you like that sort of thing, then fine, good luck to you. The world would be a very boring place if we all liked the same things. Why is the sound tinny on youtube? I played it through a mixing desk and a pair of JBL studio monitors, it still sounded tinny, thats the way "slap" sounds, isn't it? Again, fine if you want your bass to sound like that.
Slap doesn't have to sound tinny, people just have to actually think about their tone instead of just plugging an expensive bass into an expensive amp rig, thinking "it must sound good". He obviously cares more about technique than tone and musicality (in this video, at least).

I know technically it's "musical" but it's just a term my old guitar teacher used when he was teaching me fast scale runs, and that anyone can learn to play a scale really fast and use different techniques, it's just up to me to make it "musical", using different note groupings and using them melodically etc. I have trouble putting my thoughts into words, but I didn't mean anything bad by it, I still enjoyed the video. Doddy
In defence of Damian Erskine, for the majority of that video he is actually playing the melody of the tune ('Donovan James' by David Dyson, for those who don't know). I liked Erskines solo too, there was some nice stuff going on.It was a good contrast to Dysons also-cool slap-fest. Nice Skjold's too. chardbass
I will always admire players like Damien, Janek and Hadrien F- their knowledge on the instrument is amazing but what can spoil it for me a little is the over-used 3 or 4 finger technique in certain contexts. A few players use it and it doesn't do anything for me - it's like listening to a horn player triple tongue and smacks a little bit of style over substance to my ears. I'm in awe of all the musicians in the original clip.

That's why everything sounds tinny.
FuNkShUi
Loved the drummer. Liked how into it he was aswell! I thought the guys playing bass were good. Yeh, i understand its not everyones thing, and thats fine. But what a few maybe arent realising is, he didnt play that gig worrying about what the people of youtube were going to think. So maybe after the reaction he was getting to the slap bits he played, he thought hed turn it up a notch to give the crowd what theyd seemed to want. Just an idea, not saying im right! But yeh, drummer rocked it
