Annoying Twit
We discussed Lincoln basses on here some years ago. Yep, these turn up with a few different names, (Asama's pretty common) and seem to be variations on a design made by Kawai, who I somehow pinned down as a manufacturer for Fernandes - who also had a version or two of this. Lincolns all seem to be in the UK, making his US brand claim as probable as his Matsumoku assertion. But - it's stripy, it MUST be a Matsumoku! Oh - and while we're on the subject of wildly ambitious pricing: http://www.ebay.co.u...n-/251555552366 I do like the offset position markers, but that aside unbranded & Jedson-branded versions of this don't tend to fetch more than £70 - £100 or so on a good day. Annoying Twit
Re: The Lincoln. I was starry eyed by the purty pictures and then gobsmacked by the price. I can't remember, but I thought these went in about the £150-160 range or thereabouts. I didn't actually read the listing properly and didn't notice all the misinformation.
The same seller has a 1980s Hohner he bought from me for £64 and listed starting at £150 on the day he got it! I think a MIJ Westone, though a less fancied Spectrum, went for £75 or something. So if he makes a bit of ££££ on a bass, that might balance things up a bit. Ibstock seems to be a poor location to sell basses from. If I remember correctly, that was where the MIJ Bass Collection five string that I came second in the bids for was, that sold for £115. There's a proper guitar shop there though. Did you sell the Hohner on ebay? ... search search search ... I've found your ebay id and am now following you as a seller. Edited June 11, 2014 by Annoying Twit
Bassassin
Yep - sold the Hohner on Ebay, his listing is the 4th time it's been on this year. I made a couple of quid on the deal, but have done a fair bit of work to it to make it as nice as possible. I didn't buy it to flip, though, I thought it looked interesting & wondered if it was related to the Washburn Force series. Turned out to be an OK but not-fantastic copy. Anyway only sold it as part of my pre-house move clearout, along with a pretty but ratty Satellite LP copy that was my daughter's. Next on Ebay will probably be an MIJ J copy I bought late last year, interesting but the neck's not great. Decent stuff will go on BC, once push comes to shove... J. Don't see many of them! I have one and it has a surprisingly deep, full tone. Nice to play - as with most of these shapes, a bit of a diver but nothing too extreme. Annoying Twit
We haven't seen one for a while, but a few of them turned up one moderately soon after another a couple of years ago. They look really nice and I note your comment about them having a surprisingly deep, full, tone. However, I've never seen a fretless one and unless I found something exceptional, my next bass will be a fretless when I have the ££££ budget. Edit: It'll be a few more months wait if I was to go for, e.g. a WestoneThunder fretless. In the meantime I have to resist the temptationn to fall into my standard trap of buying something that in the cold light of hindsight won't be the most suitable instrument for me. Edited June 12, 2014 by Annoying Twit
Annoying Twit
Jedson LP bass with bolt-on neck. Quite detailed list of what's wrong with it, which doesn't seem to add up to all that much. Annoying Twit
This might be from the wrong decade, but IMHO this Bass Collection SB310 is very reasonably priced if shipping is included. Annoying Twit
Shaftesbury Les Paul style bass. If I was less lazy I'd compare the shape to the Jedson posted a few posts further up, and therefore by implication to Jon's unbranded bass. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VINTAGE-SHAFTESBURY-LES-PAUL-TYPE-BASS-MIJ-JAPAN-70s-WORKING-RIPE-TO-RESTORE-/321442695774?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item4ad77a4a5e Said to be 'ripe' to restore.
