Bloodaxe
Westone Thunder 2a, not that far from me. I might ask for info.
The extra holes look to be factory original: http://www.westone.i...cats/81/07.html I wonder if they're to secure the preamp circuit. The first run Aria SB-1000s have a similar feature - two c/sunk bolts that fit through the lugs on the BB casing.

Think they were about £100 new, so this seller's done pretty well. That Thunder II's stunning - one of the nicest examples I've seen. Interesting to see what it goes for. J. kodiakblair
That's what got me Bassassin I bought a violet 5 string a while back for £60. It didn't have a mark on it, that one had " Ghost Marks " from a marker pen. Fair play to the seller for highlighting the marks and he sure got a good price for it. Pity that Westone is collection only and 480 mile away. I hope he's got a reserve set cause the Jet King he's selling is in great nick too. Annoying Twit
Not a bass, but I stumbled across a Made in Japan Fender Strat today. I had a quick play unplugged and the neck felt fabulous to me. £250 seems a reasonable price for what it is. It had a T serial number and was marked "Made in Japan". However, on checking, there are a number of different eras that match this. It looked pretty much brand new, so I guess it's a 2007-2010 model rather than a 90s model. Earlier in the day I'd tried a Fender Modern Player strat (didn't find a single bass that I particularly wanted to try) with P90s, but the MIJ was clearly head and shoulders above it in feel. Annoying Twit
Not a bass warning! Vaguely tempted by this, and will probably want a quality classical guitar at some point. But at £25 I can't help feeling that if it really is good quality, it'd be more expensive. Historically interesting though, and if I didn't have a Yamaha C40 I might go for this. http://www.gumtree.c...itar/1094196735 I don't know much about the Dia brand. It seems that some of their 70s Les Paul copies were bolt-on neck guitars made at the Matsumoku factory. Bassassin
Pretty guitar. If it's consistent with its era, all that fancy marquetry should be real inlays & not the transfers you see on contemporary cheapo Classicals. Can't really go far wrong for £25. Don't know anything much about DIA, not a UK brand as far as I can tell, always assumed they were a random EU importer brand. I've seen Matsumoku Rick copies, not sure about LPs, some are definitely not Mat. J.
The 'Matsumoku' connection came from a forum post elsewhere where someone described having a Dia LP where the neck plate said 'Steel adjustable neck'. There was clearly some confusion however as they introduced it as a 'set neck' guitar then later on in the same post it became a bolt on. As always, I could be repeating misinformation. The only photos I saw had a very generic 'Made in Japan' neck plate. I haven't found anyone criticising the quality of Dia guitars yet, comments generally say that they are among the better copies from their age. I did find one claim that Dia might be short for the Aria Diamond sub-brand, but I consider that very far from proven and IMHO not that likely. In this thread http://www.acousticg...ad.php?t=256327 an acoustic guitar owner is claiming that an early 70s Dia acoustic in their possess was made in the Matsumoku factory. While the history of Matsumoku says that they made acoustics early on, I thought that they were already specialising in electrics by the 70s. I suppose that I *could* buy it. It's a moderate walking distance from where I am now. But TBH I just don't have quite enough motivation to actually do anything. I already have a battered classical guitar that cost me about £20, and would want to be moving even further onwards and upwards if I bought another. Only (slightly silly) reason I don't play one now is that their quite small body looks a bit daft on a bloke who is six foot four and weighs 220 pounds. The early neck through ones were surprisingly heavy though.

Bassassin
It's a slightly depressing reflection of the current market value of MIJ stuff that this has been on for 3 days & is still there. I'm still amazed by the Washburn Force 40 which sold for just £124 a few days ago, and there's been a slew of those Matsumoku-built, DiMarzio-equipped Hondo Professionals which have failed to attract any bids despite starting at £99 or less. It's a rubbish time to be trying to sell JapCrap. J.
