pete.young
A Woollies special, starting at a whopping £485! kodiakblair
I was about to say Ms Priscilla Snake is insane but viewing her other items, Wilson bass £650 , I better up my insurance pronto Perhaps I should offer her my services to aid buying this "Weltron" ? https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/vintage-1960-s-weltron-bass-/1223072656 Given her asking prices, a fee of £250 would suffice. Bassassin
That's some mental money for the "Arbiter". These are pretty common & often go for sub £100. What's mildly amusing is that it's a copy of Gibson's budget Kalamazoo KB bass, which would probably sell for a fair bit less than £485. The Ideal-branded thing appears to be a 2-pickup version of a mid-60s Teisco EB-18. That's got to be about 3 times what it's worth, in a sane world anyway. Never heard of a "Weltron" but Ebay's full of people making up crap. These are common early 70s starter basses, and oddly the exact same design was manufactured in Korea some years later.
soopercrip
Looks rather nice for 42 years old http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/263031409854?_trksid=p2471758.m4703

Bassassin
I think that might be the highly sought-after Westone Bitsa.
pete.young
A 'Luxor' jazz copy, looks very Matsumoku . Not 1972, looks like '75 or later to me - most 70s Mat serials were random numbers. Bit dear considering it's pretty beat-up and has non-original parts. I think Luxor's a German importer brand, so it's travelled a bit.
Paul S
Starforce bass £50 bin - cheap, no? Pickup only and 'a little buzzy' but I seem to remember reading on here they are half decent? Bassassin
Cheapo Korean, but I'd probably dump £50 on that for the star inlays, if it was near me! Always thought "Starforce" gets confused with "Starfield" - which was made by Fujigen for Hoshino. Starfield apparently being pretty much a translation of Hoshino. Bassassin
Now here's an interesting one - 1986 Ibanez Proline PL5050: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ibanez-PL5050-Bass-Guitar-86-Jap-FujiGen-Made/122661478487 Essentially the debut of what would go on to be the SoundGear series. Very reasonable price for such a rarity, and in great condition by the looks. Shame (or lucky escape?) he won't post.
Paul S
Washburn - Force 8 or Force B? - I think these are quite nice. £129.99 start, collect only from Slough. Bassassin
Force 4 - Force 8 had a bound body with bookmatched top & maple board. I know because I have slightly uncomfortable GAS for one. Classy, understated thing this one - love that shape.

prowla
You have to wonder who will pay decent money for one of those old lumps of plywood toot; they were utter crap when they were new and they're not going to have improved with age.

Couldn't agree more, with the exception of the Vantage (which is both well-made and rare in the UK) this is a sh!tshow of horrible, borderline-unplayable throwaway trash. The Grant J-type thing is the exact bass I started with - if I hadn't got something slightly better after a couple of months, there's no way I would have carried on playing.

W1_Pro
His descriptions are very well thought through mind. His verdict on the Satellite bass: "1970's Vintage Short Scale Satellite Bass, Well preserved & Fully Functional.." To which I could only add ".....and still sh*t." Bassassin
I think it's basically one of these but with a few detail/hardware differences: Cimar was Ibanez' parent company's budget brand & shared some crossover in styling. I think most of them came from a different factory, who presumably sold slightly differently specced versions under the Seiwa brand. I've encountered Seiwa before but never seen one of these. Interesting. 1
