Musky Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 (edited) Oh bugger - sorry about that. I don't remember one of these coming up before and a I was sorely tempted especially as it was black. Didn't go for it in the end because of the pickup placement and the fact that I recently bought a CSB 380, but it only went for £99. Prices do seem to dropping a hell of a lot... It sold for its start price, £99, while that other piece of broken crap started at a tenner and made it to £78! Which is outrageous considering it's incomplete, the neck & body are very probably from different instruments (ever seen a maple dot board on a JapCrap J? Me neither) and bloody Status Quo might have scrawled all over it! What's wrong with people?? J. Quote

As for the Quo 'signatures', they all looked in the same writing to me. Combined with the half hearted attempt at drawing the Quo logo on the bridge cover, it looks more likely someone was just displaying their allegiances. Quote

I wonder what it sounds like - does anyone have an idea how close those are to a good Jazz? Z
My main squeeze just happens to be a CSL Jazz: However: it's not the same as that one - it's quite a lot later, about 79/80, built by Fujigen, solid mahog body, Ibanez Blazer shape headstock. I'm not convinced the one on the Bay is Fujigen (early Sumbro & CSLs weren't) it might be ply under the finish - which I don't think is original - and I really don't like that hole in the neck - if that really is an imperfection in the wood, not damage, I'd be a bit concerned. Also the round-end JapCrap pups can be variable - I've had a few basses with these, they can be weak & insipid, loud & unsubtle (wish I'd kept those! ) or generally well-rounded, punchy but pleasantly mellow like my CSL. The body routes match the pups so you'd probably have to do a bit of modification to get a standard set to fit. J. Quote
zbigniew Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Many thanks for the great answer Bassassin - just as expected from the guru (now where is that "bow down to the master" emoticon) Not that I'll be bidding on that bass though - us Icelanders are in a bad way financially and exchangerateally Good looking CSL you have there also! Z Quote
Bassassin Posted December 10, 2008 Author Posted December 10, 2008 Jazz copies identical to mine were also sold as Cimars (it's that Ibanez connection again) and these are fairly common in Europe, and with any luck there will be some knocking around in Iceland - keep your eyes peeled! J. Quote

Quote
Bassassin Posted December 10, 2008 Author Posted December 10, 2008 That looks like this '68 Teisco: In which case the crooked P-pup's not original. I can't quite tell from the pic but I think it's not the neck pocket, but the scratchplate that's a poor fit. These turn up quite often, either as Teisco or Woolies (RIP) Top Twenty brand - considering how non-original this is, £130 is far too much. J. Quote
