Sorry for my lack of attention last night - lost about 8 hours playing Fallout 3. :)

Anyroad up, as has been explicitly pointed out, it could be anything but a Yammy! Interesting suggestion that it might be German, I have seen the occasional Marlin-branded P copy made in the DDR (the old East Germany, kids) and there's an old Str*t copy on Ebay at the moment which the seller reckons to be German - so it seems they exist. Otherwise I'd say Hondo, or a different Samick rebrand, or go with Andy67's Kay suggestion - the later plywood KB24s were very much like this.

Anyway, can't hang around, I'm presently trapped on the roof of ruined building, beseiged by Fire Ants...

"Built somewhere between the 50's and the 60's".

[Pedantic] There wasn't anything between the 50's and 60's. They sort of flowed from one straight into the other. In fact, they were ascloseasthis.

Just saying. [/Pedantic]

I'm amazed ( and annoyed, was hoping to pick it up cheap!) at how much this fetched, as a non-'name' piece of japcrap - especially as prices seem to be coming down a bit just now. It's probably worth it though, I have Westbury g****r and it's excellent by any standards.

I'm not too surprised to be honest - Westbury might not be brand on the tip of every players tongue but they were made by Matsumoku. The Track 2 basses don't come up too often and this one was in pretty good condition (missing saddle excepted).

Algis Kizys out of Swans used to play one of these incidentally.

I was watching that too, funnily enough...

Westburys are pretty sought-after among JapCrap enthusiasts - in fact it was finding a rather lovely Westy Standard g*it*r in a charidee shop a few years back which reawakened my interest in all things Jappy & crappy. Paid £60 (was looking for a new g*it*r & remembered the name from yonks ago), was blown away by the quality, checked it out online to find the Fleabay price at the time was about £120 - £150.

I then put 2+2 together & discovered most of my favourite basses & guitars past & present were from the same era & mostly the same origin.

I've always fancied a Track series bass to go with the Westy Standard, would prefer a Track IV - set neck & 2x P pups - but I'd settle for a Track 2. For £60... :)

My finger's been hovering dangerously close to the trigger on that one for ages now - but it's just going to cost too much once you include shipping and tax. Gorgeous bass - love the headstock and I bet it plays too.

Mind you, that's with Ibanez basses. It's probably different with Ibenez basses.

Got to love that "crazed gold sparle" finish. [Trans: My re-spray went horribly wrong.]

It would be useful if they were over the frets, up the dusty end! Then again that "Ibenez" wasn't born with that bridge...

Depends on the Grant! My first bass was a Grant - and it was awful. However Grant was just another UK importer brand (owned by a music shop in Glasgow, it seems) and they will have sold a fairly broad range like most brands. I think the Grantson brand was probably from the same importer:

And it's likely they changed their logo/brand etc when they realised that certain US companies might have issues about similarities to certain trademarks...

My bass wasn't the same as either of these two - although if you imagine a Jazz-ish take on the second one you'll get the general idea - and I'm confident it could have been made somewhat more playable if I'd had a clue about setup back then.

I do like that Telebass type one, I have to say. Shame its covers & thumbrest are long gone.

Is a roadstar a different model to a roadster? Phil Lynott had an Ibanex Roadster and i would love to have one, has anyone seen them Coming up on the fleabay?

Best picture i can find. They had his actual one in bass guitar magazine about a year ago i think...

EDIT: just had a quick search: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=330300541459

The Roadstar series was the successor to the humble Roadster. I have an RS924 - Steve bleedin' 'Arris played one of them, you know...

Anyway, still in IbbyLand, there's a rather nice first-series Blazer, if you're in Derbyshire:

Nice meejum-scale Aria Cardinal:

Kawai Aquarius - seriously rare, very serious project:
