Had a touch today....stood outside a local cafe watching the roadsweeper & his street scene crew try to decide where was the best place to park their transit so it could not be seen by their supervisor....when on looking at said vehicle i noticed what looked like a guitar neck,strolled over and low & behold it was a Bass I asked what do you want for this one said a Fiver another a tenner...we settled on £5....
It a Kay possibly mid 70's and in reasonable nick nothing missing at all,Ive forgotten the model but will post pics when I bring it home tomorrow...

I'll be surprised if that's not one of their Precision copies, then!

If it is, they're halfway decent after a setup - but right bloody backbreakers. Can fetch £70 - £90ish on Thiefbay, too. :)

I was thinking it might go for £600 or more. My own bid is something like £207 or so. Can you guess why I'm not concerned about posting my max bid in public in cased I get shilled? :) I can't justify spending £600 or so on a bass right now.

No evidence it's an Antoria at all, or even JapCrap, for that matter.

Bit alarmed at the idea that to de-fret it rather than removing the frets & filling the slots, he prised the old fretboard off & replaced it with a mahogany one. Not a material commonly used for fretless boards, this and the general tone of his ad don't give me a lot of confidence that he knows a great deal about basses. String separator?

American, and the switches are phase, series/paralell (two of whichever is appropriate), a rotary varitone and active boost on/off.

Something puts me off this one. Not that a LP bass is high on my list of things to buy. But this one has really old looking metal, the bridge looks a bit "Victorian engineering", and the whole thing just looks a bit unappealing. Of course, for those who can restore instruments, those may not be problems.

SB-700 with hard case. On first view, I thought the price quite reasonable, but with the non-original pickup and filled in switch hole, I'm not so sure.

It started out at £399, with no interest. Still overpriced at £350 in its current condition. It's a boring, run of the mill, Oak finished 700.

Now, the Black 700 that was listed at the weekend should have caught your attention. Black was a standard finish, but produced in small numbers when compared to the Oak and Walnut versions, and pre-81 examples in that finish come up relatively infrequently.

I actually offered the lad £120 for it when it didn't sell last time (before I got another one) and he said he thought it was worth £150. Can't help but think he;d get that if he offered delivery.

Looks nice though with a maple f/board, ain't seen one of those before.

Nice bass, not very common with the maple board. He'll be lucky to get £150 though - Antorias are selling for less than a ton these days & Columbus doesn't have the same reputation or (spurious) Ibanez connection.

Warwick use the mystery "Carolena" wood on some of their basses & it's definitely not Swamp Ash. The one I played a few years back looked suspiciously like Larch or Pitch Pine. Co-incidentally, the State Tree of North Carolina is [url="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinus_palustris"][i]Pinus palustris[/i][/url] (Longleaf Pine).

Swamp Ash usually gets labelled as such, as we expect to see that as a tonewood; but pine needs a bit of er... marketing.
