Mr. Foxen Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Always gonna be beat by people who bid more than you. Quote
chaypup Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 But beaten by £1 because that person bid in the last second using a snipe tool! Why can't Ebay just extend the auction by 2 minutes every time someone bids so the seller gets the mazimum amount someone was prepared to bid? Quote
tauzero Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 You can either use a snipe tool yourself or actually bid the maximum amount you're prepared to bid. If that maximum amount is more than the amount that the snipe tool has set, you win. Quote
Musky Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 At 21 seconds before the end of the auction, it's unlikely he was using a snipe tool. More likely he just left it to the last minute before hitting the bid button. Quote
Mr. Foxen Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 you only set a max bid, however high the max you set, it will only beat the next highest bid by a relatively small amount of the total price, depending on a sliding scale. Quote
Paul S Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Yes, snipes don't always work. I was out at the end of an auction for something so I set up a snipe. My max bid via the snipe ended up being higher than the highest bid, but not as high as the next increment demanded by the auction. So the lower bid won, even though I bid higher. Quote

GremlinAndy Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 (edited) [quote name='Musky' timestamp='1348005842' post='1808150'] At 21 seconds before the end of the auction, it's unlikely he was using a snipe tool. I leave it until 5 seconds or less to push the confirm button and always have the best amount I'm prepared to pay... Then I either get it at, or below the maximum price I was happy to pay, ....or someone else was prepared to pay more. Then I have no regrets, win or loose. The difficult part is being honest with yourself about the amount you want to pay... If you think you would have gone higher after you see the final bid, it means you weren't honest with yourself... Edit: Don't be tempted to be all noble and put in your honest highest price earlier than the last few seconds. If you do you'll just drive the price up earlier and probably not win. eBay is only worth using when there's a bargain to be had IMHO, so for me it's the only way to buy at a bargain price. Most things will appear again, or if it's something quite rare, which you *really* want, then your max price has to reflect how much you want it. Edited October 22, 2012 by GremlinAndy Quote

Mr. Foxen Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Distrust anyone who crams 'Ibanez' into a not Ibanez bass listing, but at least Cimar have a known relation. the body won't be Elder either, that would be terrible wood and probably bad luck is superstitious (think is a bit poisonous with cyanide type stuff, probably only when green). OK at current price, not for much more though. Quote
pete.young Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 I think he probably means 'Alder', an equally unlikely claim! Quote
